Nest Watercolor (Spring Free Printable)
I’m so glad you all enjoyed the watercolor bunny I shared last week as part of an Easter printable hop. Well, this week is part 2 of the printable hop hosted by Kristen over at Ella Claire and we’re celebrating spring. My friends and I have created 30 free printables to celebrate the season.
I don’t know about you but spring is my favorite season!
Last year a little robin made a nest right outside the playroom window. John, Conor and I loved checking on the beautiful blue eggs and, once they hatched, watching the mother feed them. It is the sweetest sight. I left the nest out in the tree and I’m hoping the mother returns this year with some new babies. With that in mind I created this free printable for you.
I associate this season with nesting inside our homes; tidying it up with spring cleaning and sprucing it up with fresh blooms, lovely linens and pretty pastel shades.
I thought it would be fun to start decorating our sunroom (even though it was 15 degrees when I took these photos) and as you read this we’re getting 18 inches of snow… I know the weather will be perking up outside soon.
I had the nest in the basement and the pretty yellow tulips are from the grocery store. I made the frame.
To Make the Frame
I’ve included a few affiliate links in this post.
The frame is really easy to make. To created it I used:
Materials
- 4 pieces of 4 inch pine boards
- L type flat metal brackets
- Mitre Saw
- Wood Glue
- Plywood
- Gray Wood Stain
- Black Paint
- Modern Masters Rust Activator Kit
Method
Step 1 – Cut 45 degree angles on boards using a mitre saw.
Step 2 – We glued plywood onto the back, the size of the area. Allow to dry.
Step 3 – Attach the L brackets.
Step 4 – Stain wood. I used gray stain by Minwax. Allow to dry and seal with Wipe-On Poly.
Step 5 – To age the L bracket, I painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in Charcoal and allowed it to dry. I then used Modern Master’s Rust Kit to create an aged look.
Max, of course, wanted to help me out in the sunroom –
The milk pitcher is from Cornwall. I found it out antiquing with my family in Wadebridge when we went on our vacation last month.
