When friends come over they immediately say how inviting our home feels. They often say they just want to plop down on the couch. I love hearing this because I believe home is a haven and sanctuary. Home should be filled with beautiful spaces to be enjoyed by all. I believe people feel comfortable in our home mostly due to the layers of textures I’ve added over time. Woven Roman Shades

One of my favorite ways to add texture to any room is woven roman shades. We have various different roman shades in our bedrooms, living room, dining room, and kids’ playroom. I actually wrote this post comparing and contrasting 5 different brands.

We have some bamboo and some woven shades in various rooms. Our curtains are linen from Ikea in the above pictured space while the curtains below are cotton that looks like linen. You can read more about our bedroom window treatments here.

Woven shades instantly make a room feel warmer and more inviting.

Special Tip: I highly recommend getting swatches before ordering them for your home.

Adding DIY Board and Batten

This one involves a little DIY but you can do this project in a weekend. In our old bedroom (now shared office) we decided to add an easy Board and Batten wall treatment. Click here to get the tutorial for this.

This is easier than it might look. We actually used affordable lattice and a nail gun to attach it to the wall. Once painted the lattice looked like board and batten. Here you can see a peek at the process.

Adding the paneling made the room feel cozy but also gave the illusion of more visual interest.

Woven Baskets

Woven baskets are a wonderful interior design trick! I love using them for storage, as plant holders, or just as pretty texture in a room. My favorite sources for baskets at afforable prices is: Target, Ikea and HomeGoods. The ones pictured below are from HomeGoods and we built the table to l like galvanized metal. Click here for that tutorial.

I have lots of baskets in our home. I just think they look so pretty and add so much visual interest.

Special Tip – Vintage and antique stores are also a great source for vintage baskets with patina!

Woven Sea Grass Rug

I’ve had this rug for a year and half but this is the first time I’m sharing it here on the blog. It’s pretty with a lovely braided texture. Unfortunately, this rug is by Jaipur Rugs which are only available through designers or home decor retailers. Ikea has a great seagrass rug for a really affordable price. I also like these below.

Textured Coffee Table

I’m a huge fan of adding texture in furniture. Our tribal round coffee table adds lots of texture and warmth to our living room. I shared more about the table here. We actually got this coffee table back in October 2018, so three years ago and it still looks amazing!

Bamboo Side Tables

Speaking about tables. I just added this sweet bamboo side table to our sunroom and it gives a subtle texture to this calming space. You can read more about this space and the table here.

Hanging Shiplap Walls

To instantly give a cozy feel to our she shed – an unfinished shed we made into an outdoor room. We added shiplap and painted it white. This does require a bit of DIY but it’s so well worth it! You can see the space on a summer’s day here. We created this space several years ago. See She Shed reveal here. This is only an 8 x 10 room and you can see how big the shiplap makes it look!

A few years ago, we installed a pool and decided to make this outdoor room the pool house. This is how it looks now with slat front benches my husband built. You can see the reveal here and tutorials here and here.

Woven Pendants

Woven pendants are wonderful way to add texture to a room. You can see the black one we added to our pool house. It’s by Leanne Ford and we got it at Target. It’s no longer available, but there are loads of options at many retailers for woven pendants. I love the graphic element this added to our white room and love the oblong shape.

Woven Mirrors

Adding a woven mirror is a simple way to add texture to any room. The one I added to our pool house was from HomeGoods. I haven’t tired of it over the last couple of years and it makes the room appear larger. This woven mirror would also look great above an oversided dresser in a big bedroom or a above a fireplace.

The knotted finish adds so much texture to the space. To get a similar look shop the mirrors below.

Dried Florals

Probably the easiest way to add some neutral texture is dried florals and grasses. This is from our living room last year. Simply buy some pampas grass and stick it in a vase. Instant texture at a super affordable price point. This lasts year and year, too.

The above is a photo of pampas grass in our dining room, see our fall home tour from last year. The below picture is dried bunny tales and wheat grass in our kitchen.
