The Perils of Potty Training
So today is the big day! We are potty training!
Potty Time! |
I have been putting this off for a while. Conor started showing signs at 18 months, but we were going on a trip to the UK and Italy so thought that wouldn’t be fun on the many plane rides and car rides. Fast forward to last week.
Conor was up in his club house at the top of his swing set. I saw his little naked legs up there in 35 degree weather! He’d stripped of his pants and threw down the poo filled diaper to the ground. If this isn’t a sign that he is ready than I don’t know what is.
Up to the clubhouse… |
I am kicking and screaming all the way to this day as any mother of a diaper wearing toddler will tell you that diapers are easier.
My oldest, John, was a nightmare to train. We went through a gigantic container of Jelly Belly jelly beans, five cavities later and he was still not potty trained. I waited til he was three and we did it cold turkey – no rewards.

Conor and I are doing the 3 day method. My good friend recommend this as it worked in one day with her daughter. We are trying the 3 Day Potty Training by Lora Jensen. I have everything ready to go – bjorn potty in the bathroom, 20 pairs of brand spanking new big boy undies, sticker charts, favorite drinks and fiber rich foods and of course little prizes. I’m not sure if he’s going to be potty trained at the end, but my fingers are crossed.
So that is my plan for the weekend, no blogging, no painting of furniture just quality potty time all the time with Mr. C. Wish us luck!
We just did the three day method with Sophia (but a modified version I found online). For three days, no clothes from the waist down, and only leaving the house for one hour each day. No underwear allowed. She was trained in one day! She had been asking to use the potty for a long time, but I’m glad I waited until after her third birthday. It was so easy! Good luck!
Wow! I’m impressed. It has been hard today, but he did well. Fingers crossed he gets it by the end of the weekend.
Good luck!! You’ll both do great! I entered cautiously as well, but the second time around, as you know, things are just a bit easier!!! xxxx
Thanks! Yes, I know the second time is easier for most things.
Sounds like you are well prepared to hunker down! Good luck to all!
Thanks, Nancy. It was a long day, but he’s ready. Hopefully the next two go well.
