DIY: Decoupaged Pumpkins
Hi All! Well, it is the last day of the cleanse and I’m happy to report that I feel on top of the world. I feel great and have so much energy now. I’m also really excited to share this little DIY with you.
Decoupaged Pumpkin |
I simply love pumpkins. I love their round shape, I love their little stems and I also love cooking with them. I love them with chocolate chips in brownies, in pie and in soups. Yum. I’m so excited we’re back to fall and pumpkins. For my mantel I really wanted to decoupage pumpkins with old book pages.
On pinterest I’ve seen many fun decoupaged pumpkins and really loved this one:

Decoupaged Pumpkins
Materials:
-artificial pumpkins
– mod podge (matte)
– dish for mod podge
– antique book pages
– gilding wax (or rub ‘n buff)
Well, here’s my rendition. I found these cute pumpkins (okay, the color is kind of ugly, but I was going to cover them) at the Dollar Tree.
Mod Podge and Pumpkins from Dollar Tree |
I took an antique book – an A Biographical Dictionary of English Literature (that I already had) and tore a few pages out of it. The pages were very thin and had just the right color of age, the right patina, if you will.
Antique Book Pages |
I tore the pages into small pieces that were easy to work with. Then I dipped my pieces into the mod podge. I made sure to keep my fingers wet with the mod podge so it was easier to get the pages to stick. If you do this at home, you may see that the book pages bubble a little, try to tap them down, but if you can’t no problem they will settle and really if they don’t it adds to the character of the pumpkin.
Placing the book pages on |
Once the pumpkins were dry (I waited until the next day) I applied a thin coat of mod podge to seal the pumpkins. On the green stem I used gold gilding wax. If you don’t have this you could use Rub ‘n Buff.
Here’s how they came out:
I can’t wait to share how they look on the mantel. You’ll just have to wait until Monday to see them!
