Ooh La La: A Giveaway!
Happy Monday! I’m so excited because this is the start of a very brilliant week at Finding Silver Pennies. We’re starting the week off with a little “Ooh La La!”
First, I’d like to introduce you all to the fantastic, witty and very talented – Jamie Cat Callan!
Bonjour, Jamie!
About two years ago, I met Jamie at Buttonwood Books in Cohasset. She was speaking about her lovely book “Bonjour, Happiness!” On that wet, dreary evening Jamie had us all laughing! I was immediately drawn into all that she was talking about. I was completely and utterly inspired.
She said to all of us gathered around her, “If you want to write then you need to start a blog.” Jamie inspired me to start Finding Silver Pennies. I’m not sure I would have had the guts to do it on my own, but so glad she planted the seed!
Well, Jamie has a new book out and I know you all are going to love it!
Jamie’s new book is “Ooh La La!”. It uncovers French women’s secrets to feeling beautiful every day. It is filled with lovely stories and tips on finding that certain something that all French women seem to possess.
The book is packed with stylish tips, elegant women, stories of scarves, finding your color and also a true mentor.
Jamie’s journeys through the streets of Paris, and the French countryside, will transport you. While reading, I felt as if I could taste the fresh, buttery croissants and smell the rich aroma of the cafe au laits. I could picture myself chatting with Jamie at an outdoor cafe watching the world go by.
Much time is spent speaking and learning from French women and it is these interactions I enjoyed so much.
Beauty isn’t just skin deep. Jamie also explores the idea that beauty comes from within and ways to achieve this in your own life. It seems so simple but sometimes we all forget to take that little time for ourselves. You know, getting a mani/pedi, enjoying a yoga class or making time to stroll along the beach.
I so enjoyed reading this book. Each night I’d sneak off to bed (without the noise of my two boys) and go on journeys with Jamie in search of “Ooh La La!”
I know you are dying to get your hands on this thoroughly enjoyable book. Jamie is giving away an autographed copy to one lucky reader.
For your chance to win and achieve the secret to French beauty all you need to do is leave a comment, telling us what makes you feel beautiful.
What makes you feel beautiful? In case your stuck, some things that make me feel beautiful are:
– Wearing the color blue.
– Escaping to yoga.
– The smell of Lily of the Valley.
– My little guys telling me I look pretty when I’m dressed up to go on a date night with Daddy.
– Painting and Writing!
For a second chance to win “like” Jamie’s facebook page here and leave a comment letting me know you did.
The contest ends Friday, June June 21st at midnight EST. The winner will be selected at random. The winner will be announced on Sunday at the Silver Pennies Sundays link party! Good luck!
What makes me feel beautiful?….I would have to say it’s that moment my husband looks at me and just smiles. I may not look my best but it does not matter to him. He loves me for who I am not what I look like.
That is beautiful! Can you just give me your first name so I can enter you into the giveaway! Thanks!
sorry. something messed up with I published. My name is Peggy.
My husband makes me feel beautiful. That is priceless. xo Kristin
Great one, Kristin! x
Lipgloss! Even with no other makeup on, I feel more put together. I also love a good scarf. T-shirt and jeans instantly looks more like an “outfit” 🙂
Lip gloss is a great one! I love my lip gloss. x
I already have both of her books so I’m not entering the contest, but I agree about her books and French women! My mother-in-law and sister-in-law are French and there is just something about how they always look! My mother-in-law lives way out in the country in the South of France in an old farmhouse, but no matter what she is doing, when she goes out, she always looks so gorgeously put together! I try to learn from her but it is not so easy! 🙂
Denise
Denise, aren’t her books fantastic! I think you look great, but I know what you mean. I don’t always feel so pulled together myself 🙂
This sounds like a great book, Danielle! What makes me feel beautiful is being around beautiful people like you! xo
Oh, Abbie. What a sweet thing to say. The book is fantastic. I think you’ll really enjoy it! x
a trip to Nordstrom’s for a new lipstick or a bottle of Jo Malone makes me feel beautiful as does a compliment from Mike or the kids about a new dress or an outfit on a saturday night. simple things
Danielle the Michael would be me Amy Tarsala
Ooooh, Amy sounds like a lovely trip to Nordstrom. I LOVE Jo Malone’s fragrances! Glad you clarified. I wasn’t sure who this “Michael” is 🙂
It is probably testimony to the fact that I don’t get dressed up all that often, but when I do, my sweet little boy Matthew always says “Mom, you look PRETTY”…and not to discount my loving husband as he is quick with a compliment, as well. My “boys” make me feel beautiful! 🙂
Very sweet, Kristen!
A cute summer dress & being a mom:). Have a great week Danielle!!! Jen-City Farmhouse
Great ones, Jen! Hope you’re having a wonderful week! x
When your 60+ in age and your little grandson says ” Grammy you look beautiful” when all you have on is a dirty pair of blue jeans and a sweaty tee shirt.
Ooooh, Cindy, I love this. Children speak the truth, you know?!? x
i feel beautiful when I out on mascara
Mascara is great. Nice one, Kelly!
What makes me feel beautiful? What a great questions. Maybe it’s when I manage a few deep uninterrupted breaths in a row, regain my perspective, put one foot in front of another without falling…. ah hell… who am I kidding? It’s definitely red lipstick.
Cheryl, it is definitely red lipstick and it i soooo your color! x
I feel beautiful wearing a favorite outfit and arranging fresh cut roses. Of course, no matter what I’m wearing I always have on red lipstick. It has been my signature color for years. Thanks for the opportunity to win this wonderful book.
Jean Goza
Thanks, Jean, for your lovely comments. I love fresh cut flowers around the house. It really gives a home the feeling of happiness. Red sounds like such a fun shade for lipstick! x

I feel beautiful when a little girl I babysit for cuddles up to me when I read her bedtime story. Also when I have clean hair!
Lovely answer, Rachel! x
I would love to read this book because I have to say that I don’t feel all that “beautiful” much of the time…but I do feel great when I harvest something from my little garden, or swing on the hammock with my boys, or do yoga outside and look up at the sky through the trees to see birds flying overhead. It sounds like a great book! Thank you for the chance to win.
Those are great! I love doing yoga outside and feeling beautiful through nature!
When I finally get my eyebrows waxed after going too long without it! LOL!!
Good one! I really need to have mine done…
Liked her facebook page too. 🙂 What a fun book!
I feel beautiful when I am doing something I thoroughly enjoy….walking on the beach, out on a nature hike, spending time with good friends, helping someone in need. When you’re happy on the inside inside, I think it shows on the outside!
Yes, me too! I love being outside and being with friends. Great answers!
I liked Jamie’s FB page 🙂
This contest is now closed! Thanks to everyone for entering. The winner will be announced tomorrow morning!
