Living Room Inspiration & A Plan
This is how are living room is looking currently. I know it isn’t as pretty as some other pictures I’ve shown you recently.
I’m so excited because we’re starting to work on it this weekend. We will painting the walls a creamy white called Mascarpone by Benjamin Moore. It is the same color we painted the dining room and as you can see this opens up to the dining room through the columns.
The room needs A LOT of work, but we have a plan and lots of inspiration. I currently love our rug! A HUGE 1950s oriental that I got for $200! Bargain!
Oh, don’t mind Conor there playing his tablet. He wouldn’t move for the photo. Keeping it real for you!
I’m not, however, loving our couch. That was a bargain price 5 years ago on Craigslist – $100. The couch is by Pottery Barn and has seen so much – a new baby, a puppy, lots of family game nights and the four of us on the couch watching movies. The cushions are kind of sinking and, well you all know, I’m saving up for this gorgeous couch by Distinctive Chesterfields:
So in love with this Chesterfield couch, but still saving up all my pennies. We’re also thinking about getting a wingback chair to replace the white Ikea one.
Here’s some pictures I’m inspired by:
Love the white walls, the gorgeous fireplace and the wingback and Chesterfield!
Orientals and leather look so nice together, don’t you think?
I really want the room to have the look of an English gentleman’s club with nautical touches. My Beckons of Cowes sailing prints are going to look amazing on that wall once we move the TV to the other side. So here’s the plan –
This weekend we plan on getting the mirror down and painting the walls and possibly hanging the curtains. Later on, I’m planning on painting the coffee table (in a Restoration Hareware(ish) finish I learned at Haven and also painting my Governor Winthrop desk.
It is a very long room so we’re planning on having two rooms in one. The family room and then a sitting room by the fireplace. One day, we’ll have a gas insert and it will be lovely typing blog posts by the fire.
So that is the plan. What do you think?
Sounds beautiful, although I think it is lovely now. Keeping the woodwork as is? I love it and I would, but that’s just me 🙂
Thank you, Marti! Yes, the dark wood work is going to stay dark. I will NEVER paint it as it was milled in Maine when the house was built in 1927. Can’t wait to add a bit light color to the walls though.
I am so glad….it reminds me of our farmhouse in Mi.
I fell in love with the wood when I first saw it. So beautiful. x

So many wonderful ideas – it is going to look amazing!! I was struggling with picking out a soft white for my sitting room, and loved how Mascarpone looked in your dining room, so I went for it. and I absolutely love it – it is such a great color. Thank you so much for sharing your home renovations, can’t wait to see your progress.
