Waiting in the Wings
I know you all like a good “before & after” post, as do I. But today is all about befores!
If you’ve been following along on instagram or blog posts then you know that we’ve had house guests from England for the past 10 days and also that the boys have been on spring break. So I haven’t taken the paint brush out at all… sigh
I’m happy to let you know that it will be coming out today… hooray!
Can’t wait to use all these from my friend Nancy at the Sea Rose Cottage along with Chalk Paint® and Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint:
So I thought I’d share all the pieces that are waiting in the wings…patiently waiting to be re-loved and given a second chance to be beautiful.
This amazing chair came from my friend Dan at Gentleman & Daughter Antiques.
I’m thinking it would go great with my Jocasta Writing Desk. What color should I paint it? Scandinavian Pink? Country Grey with tinted Graphite wax or something else? Right now I’m thinking Country Grey but could be persuaded. This was the desk if you don’t remember. Just love the feet on this one and the caning is in great shape!
A double serpentine dresser that will be painted in MMS Milk Paint with a stained top. I have the matching mirror too!
I stopped into Goodies II to see my friend Sandy Saturday (between lunch at TKs and bowling at Scituate Bowl-a-way). I just had this feeling.
Sandy was having a HUGE sale and I couldn’t resist picking up a few bits. More inventory is coming in so will be popping back soon.
This chest is going to get a beachy makeover with rope pulls:
A child’s table will get a chalk board top makeover like the one featured in Better Homes & Gardens:
I couldn’t resist these chairs that were hand-made by someone who worked for Gardener Furniture. I love the curved details on the legs. I have five of them. I’m thinking a fun fabric for the seats and maybe a fun color for the chairs too. Any suggestions?!?
Finally, I’m in love with this empire piece. She needs alot of work and repairs which Luke will be taking on. One of the back legs is broken and the drawers need some repairs. I love the empire shape and have been dying to find this style to work on. This will be painted in milk paint. I was so excited to find an inscription in the drawer of all the previous owners. The piece dates to early 1800s.
If you’re looking for me. I’ll be in the basement…
and I’m so happy about that!
You have some fun project ahead of you! I am sure all of it will gorgeous after you are done. I have the matching empire cabinet to transform. What color are you going to do? Maybe I will do the same color to make it match-if that would be okay with you.
Have a good day
Darrielle
I’m looking forward to seeing the after pics! You found some great pieces
omg Danielle, I am having serious furniture envy right now. I have no more room for furniture in the house since things are just coming in and nothing is going back out. So I told myself no more….and I miss it!! That chair from the first picture though is absolutely gorgeous. I like the country grey look…my head is spinning now with ideas..I have to stop before I run out and buy myself a chair to paint. : )
Love,
Victoria
Some really great pieces to work on. I hope you can preserve the names of the previous owners of that chest. How cool is that.
That desk paired with that chair should look great and I think the grey would be perfect.
Hope you are having a really great day! xo Diana
I’m drooling over all pieces but especially that empire dresser. I’ve wanted one of those forever but don’t see them in this part of country. Wish I could. Think hubs and I need to go to some other cities to see what they have. Not going over Denver (east side of Rockies for us), we live west of Grand Junction, CO, closer to Utah border. It’s very hard to find great pieces here then if we do they’re so outrageously priced. The chairs you got are all very classy, look forward to seeing first chair after you finish it with… Read more »
It was fun to walk through your inventory with you. I have a similar empire dresser which has been signed by the maker in beautiful calligraphy! I’ve had it for two years and can’t bring myself to paint it although the finish is in bad shape. This is the only piece that I can’t seem to touch with a paint brush but I need to do something with it… it’s big and taking up valuable space in my workshop! I’m looking forward to seeing the finished pieces you’re working on.
You are going to be one busy lady! I am such a sucker for legs, so all those pieces with cool, curvy legs are calling my name 🙂
Hope you had a wonderful week with your English friends! and the boys off from school!! I know it is sometimes just nice to get back to the everyday schedule and work time too:) You’ve got some awesome stuff to work on!!! Its so interesting how you mostly know right away what you want to do with a piece…it would take me forever to decide…I don’t know if I have that internal furniture voice that you seem to possess!!! That last empire one is beautiful, that is so cool about the other owners leaving their names! Can’t wait to see… Read more »
OMG ! I just come across your story in Better Homes & Gardens. I had to check out your site after seeing the coffee table pictured. We have triplet 3 year old boys in the family and they would love love love a table to play and create on. ISO a similar table now.
Thanks for the great idea.
