GMC Hidden Treasure Adventure Days 1 and 2

Wow! I can’t believe how much we’ve crammed into the last two days for our Hidden Treasure Adventure!

First, let me apologize for any spelling mistakes or incoherent thoughts.  I’m typing this in the wee hours of Friday morning after driving for the WHOLE of  Thursday from Tennessee through Kentucky and yard sale-ing along the way.  But let me begin at the beginning.  We all met up in Atlanta on Wednesday morning and got acquainted.  My partner in crime is Allison from Two Thirty Five Designs and she’s such a sweetheart!  Here we are with our very comfortable and swish ride for the week.  GMC’s 2015 Yukon XL Denali.

I love the rails that come drop from the car to help those of us shorter to get in and the air conditioned seats.  Yes, you read that right.  The seats are air conditioned, which comes in handy when you’re yard sale-ing in 96 degrees with lots of humidity!   Oh, I also love the color!  It is called Iridium – kind of a shimmery gray.

Anyway, we started off our trip by visiting the Habitat Re-store in Atlanta.  Lots of fun!

We’ve also enjoyed some lovely dinners.  I tried fried green tomatoes for the first time and they’re just as yummy as I thought from that movie.  Also tried fried pickles.  We don’t get these up in New England.  Is there anything else I should try while visiting?!?

Wednesday night we stayed in Chattanooga, TN at the historic Sheraton Reed House.  This hotel was just beautiful with glittering chandeliers, dark and detailed wood work (you know how I LOVE that) and very unique rooms.  The hotel has a storied past with the likes of Winston Churchill, Tallulah Bankhead and Al Capone as guests and it is also said to be home to a ghost too!  But we didn’t hear any bumps in the night.

Yesterday, started our first day of proper yard sale-ing.  Here’s a few things that caught my eye:

The Worlds Longest Yard Sale goes across four states and totals over 700 miles of open road.  This idea was so hard for me to grasp before I got here.  It is amazing.  In many parts that we’ve seen the road is a two lane with yellow line dividing it and fields with tents filled with treasures and junk or just little stands in front of people’s homes.  People just park up and sale along!

I wish we could stop and walk though them all but if we did we’d never get to the Habitat House in Ohio!

You’ve all been asking to photos of what we’re seeing.  So here are a few more!  How pretty are all these pieces of FiestaWare?!?

I loved this yellow bed but I need a queen bed!

So many amazing and fun things to see.  Allison is doing the playroom in the house and has had tremendous luck finding things so far.  I got an amazing chippy barn door and some lovely bedding for the mother’s room.  I’m so excited to help make her room a quiet sanctuary.  A space just for her.  I’m hoping to find a dresser and nightstand and some other treasures today!

I’m so tired writing this but I wanted to share just how beautiful the people we are meeting are.  How caring and wonderful the people at Habitat, GMC and all the people we are meeting along the route.  They know we are trying to make a difference; that we’re trying to make a house, a true home.  I feel truly blessed that I can help out in some small way.

There is so much in this world to be grateful for.  Friendship. Treasures. Memories being made.

Hey Danielle,
Looks like such fun! I love fried pickles as well and guess what, you can get them in New England and more importantly right here in Scituate at JW’s Burger Bar. You’ll have to try them when you get home. See you soon.

Hi Danielle,
I am the person who sat next to you on the plane from Boston to Atlanta. So glad you are having a good time! The SUV looks amazing, and I hope you have conquered your driving fears, or that your sweet partner likes to drive. 🙂 I just wanted to let you know I think your blog is amazing, and I am so thankful for meeting you on the flight. I look forward to reading about the rest of your trip. Have fun, happy hunting, and be safe!

I envy you so much the opportunity to show your abilities. You are the real stuff and all rest of wonderful people involved in the Habitat house. Good for GMC for being such a helpful part of that. Hope you had some fun along the way too. Getting to meet new people of different areas, seeing all the incredible “stuff’ to buy. How sweet of that gal to give you the antique sign. Sounds like fun staying at that hotel. Isn’t it all so beautiful around those places? So green, makes me miss KY. How did you handle the heat?… Read more »
