Sail Cloth Pillows
Remember that little trip I took to Martha’s Vineyard last month to see the HGTV Dream Home? If you missed it you can see the dream home here. After our ferry ride over I walked around Edgartown a little bit and drooled over all the gorgeous houses.
Martha’s Vineyard is truly as special and beautiful place. I spent one summer there in college and I really wanted to bring the boys a souvenir of the Vineyard.
As I strolled from the hotel in the sea mist, I came across a lovely gallery – The North Water Gallery . Filled with gorgeous coastal paintings, ceramic horseshoe crabs which were stunning and then I spied gorgeous sail cloth pillows.
They are made from recycled sail cloth of the island by Kathleen Young. Her company is called Vineyard Vintage Resale and you all know how much I like upcycling, right? It was love at first sight and I knew they would be perfect in the boys’ rooms. Each pillow is slightly different and each pillow has a soft felt backing with an imprint of the island.
Adorable, right?
I do have a thing for pillows, just ask my hubby. He thinks pillows breed in our house.
But I couldn’t resist these for my beach loving boys.
One in John’s room:
The other pillows and the pennants are from Land of Nod.
Here’s a view of John’s room from Conor’s (they have adjoining rooms). When we moved in they called it their secret passageway.
And one for Conor’s room:
The one in John’s room is the Vineyard Haven Yacht Club’s flag. I lived in Vineyard Haven that summer and remember watching the kids learn to sail at the Yacht Club. The one in Conor’s room is from the Edgartown Yacht Club.
The boys love them and I love having a bit of Martha’s Vineyard in our home.
Even if we didn’t win the dream house!
I realized from our 2 years on home tour that I haven’t shared many photos of our upstairs so I’ll try to do that more. Click here to see our progress over the last two years.
those are perfect in their rooms!
What a cute souvenir. And yay for upcycling! People are so clever.
