Home Renovations – An Update
Good morning, friends! Well, progress is happening on our home!
Last time I gave you an update, we had NO Ceilings.
Do you remember? Click here, if you missed it:
Trying to be an interiors blogger at times like these is hard. I mean, I can’t really discuss design or take some pretty photos now can I? You don’t even want to know how hard it was to take the photos with our beautiful Frette bedding:
Just out of camera shot is our lovesseat, desk, computer chair, printer, oh yeah, and my 10 year old son who wanted to watch TV but I told him he had to wait until after I took photos. Ha! Ha!
Our home is still a crazy mess. The boys are staying in the guest room while we have a lot of our furniture in the bedroom (including the TV) and it kind of feels like crammed hotel room. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I wanted to share with you the progress. You may remember that we had some cracking ceilings, if you missed it you can read about that here.
The ceilings were pretty bad and were taken down. While this was happening we went to stay with my parents, who are saints for welcoming all of us and our stuff. We stayed there for a week – the house was pretty dusty.
About a week or two ago, the blueboard went up:
More ceiling-like but still not done. The boys room got some updates and blueboard too but I’m saving those photos for a big before and after. I have so much planned for a grown up nautical bedroom and can’t wait to share more on that soon.
Yesterday, our ceilings in the dining room and living room got some plaster!!!!
I tried to stay out of the way but I did snap a few photos. I was just so excited! I love watching them plaster on Fixer Upper and Rehab Addict. Doug Rodriegues and his son are amazing! Doug has been doing this for over 37 years.
It was quite hot yesterday so I asked him if it would matter to the plaster and he said that every time he mixes it is different, no mix is the same and the plaster acts how it’s gonna act. They worked quick on stilts wetting the plaster as they went. It really was amazing watching these artists at work.
We have real ceilings now in the downstairs….it is a wonderful feeling.
I LOVE my new ceilings so much I could just kiss them! No cracks!
This morning they’re moving upstairs to work on the boys’ bedroom.
Then it will be time for paint – the ceilings, a fresh coat on the walls and a brand new color in the kids’ room!
I’ll share more progress soon!
Your ceilings look amazing! Plaster work is so tricky! When we first had a ceilings done, the temperature outside changed dramatically over night and the plaster wouldn’t adhere. It was raining plaster. Sarah, our very talented plasterer, and yes, it is an art, fixed the ceiling and it’s still holding up! 😉
