4 Healthy Recipes We’re Loving Right Now
January is a time to reset and make healthy goals. Today I wanted to share 4 healthy recipes we’re loving right now.
I shared my goals for 2019 and top on that list was wellness and taking care of my health and my families health. Is that one of your goals, too? If so, read on, dear reader.

Right before the holidays, I received an email from my friends at Breville telling me about this amazing blender they have, the Super Q. The Super Q is possibly the most fancy, grown up blender I’ve ever had. Saying I’m IN LOVE with it would be an understatement. We’ve had the blender for about a week and our whole family is LOVING it! I think what sets this blender apart is that it does so much – smoothies, frozen desserts, dips and dressings, soups, spices and pastes, nut butters, milks, and healthy cocktails. You can even mill in it!

I wanted to tell you a little bit more about this magical blender before I share all the recipes we’ve been loving. This blender is so easy to use. It comes with one touch pre-programmed buttons – green smoothie, smoothie, ice crush, soup and frozen dessert. It also comes with a spatula and a tamper. If that wasn’t enough a beautiful Simply SuperBlending cookbook filled with over 70 recipes and lots of drool-worthy photography.
I had my kids tag all the pages they wanted to try and you should see all the tags sticking out of this book.
Conor adored the cookies & cream milk shake and we all loved the strawberry, watermelon and mint sorbet. I would have taken a photo but there was none left! Ha! Ha!
This blender also comes with a “to go” cup so you can blend right in that if you want to make a single serving smoothie. I did this for Conor the other morning when he wanted a simple strawberry and watermelon smoothie.
Okay, let’s talk about some yummy and healthy recipes!
4 Healthy Recipes We’re Loving Right Now
Homemade Almond Butter
We love nut butters at our home and always loved making some at WholeFoods. It’s amazing that we can make them right in our own kitchen now. It makes a healthy breakfast or snack. Simply serve on toast or with cut up fruit or veggies.
Ingredients
- Trader Joe’s Roasted Almonds with 50% less salt
Method
Place in Super Q blender and secure lid.
Gradually increase speed to Puree for 45 seconds, use tamper to press nuts down into blades.
Mill for 45 seconds or until desired consistency is achieved.
Storage: transfer to a clean, airtight container or jar. Store in the fridge for up to 1 month.
A little oil can be added to the nut butter, such as avocado oil, if it’s too thick.
Can you believe it’s that easy to make nut butter. Just a minute and 15 seconds. When you make it in the Breville the nut butter comes out warm and smells so good! I love it spread on bread from our local bakery, Mainstay Bakery, but also love to dip granny smith apples in it for an afternoon snack.
Tropical Green Smoothie
Luke and I love this smoothie for breakfast but the kids love it, too!
It’s a great way to get kids active in the kitchen and also trying things like kale, that because it’s green, they may turn their nose up at. I like to use baby kale as I think it has a milder taste.
This recipe is actually in the Simple SuperBlending book that comes with the blender but we love it so much that I had to share it on the blog.
I highly recommend using the Vac Q with the tropical green smoothie because it draws the air out of the blender making whatever you’re blending super smooth with more vibrant colors and flavors. In the past we’ve made smoothies that tasted good but sometimes the texture just wasn’t appealing.
This is the Vac Q:
Ingredients
- 2 cups, pealed, chopped pineapple
- 1 1/2 cups, frozen chopped mango
- 4 leaves kale, stems removed roughly chopped (we like to use baby kale and put a fist full in)
- 2 cups chilled coconut water
- 1/4 cup raw almonds
Method
Place ingredients into blender jug and secure lid.
Press Green Smoothie until program finishes.
Makes 4 servings.
It’s our favorite way to start the day!
Creamy Tomato Soup
Can you believe you can make hot soup, ready to eat, in the blender? I couldn’t! There’s a special button for soup. Talk about an easy and healthy lunch. Luke and I have made this several times.
Ingredients
- 2 (14.5) cans of crushed tomatoes
- 2 sliced shallots
- 2 cloves of garlic, chopped
- olive oil
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup vegetable stock or water
- salt and pepper to taste
- oregano, onion powder, paprika, bouquet garnies
- bread and shredded mozzarella for serving
Slice the shallots and chop the garlic, sauté over medium heat until softened and slightly golden.
Add all the ingredients into the blender jug and secure the lid.
Press soup button until program finishes.
Serve with warm bread and shredded mozzarella.
I love how tangy and creamy this soup is. It is a wonderful winter warmer, that’s healthy and delicious. It reminds me of going skating with my dad on winter days when I was little. This is also good served with grilled cheese sandwiches, our boys love it that way.
Homemade Hummus
Hummus is always something we buy lots of at the supermarkets. We all love it as a heathy snack but I got thinking maybe what we’re buying has lots of additives and preservatives and perhaps it would be best to make it at home. You probably have everything you need to make this in your cupboard already!
I actually had this ready and waiting for John when he got home from school.
I served it with Mi Nina which are made in Massachusetts but you could serve it with cut up veggies for a healthier option.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 15.5 ounce cans of chickpeas, drained and rinsed
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 1 lemon, zest and juice
- 1/4 cup tahini
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- salt and pepper, to taste
Method
I like to use the juice and zest of the lemon to give a more lemon taste to this hummus.
Place all the ingredients into the blender jug and secure the lid.
Chop 15 seconds
Puree 15 seconds, use tamper to press ingredients into blades.
If hummus is too thick, thin with warm water and blend in.
Serve with tortilla chips, pita bread or cut up veggies (or all three).
Oh, one thing I almost forgot to mention about the Super Q is that it’s self cleaning. You can add warm water and soap and press clean and the blender cleans itself. Isn’t that brilliant?!?!
I also love that I can make some things that we used to buy at the super market which were loaded with salt or additives and now I can make them at home. Since we’re making them from scratch I know exactly what is in them!
If you’re in the market for a new blender, I highly recommend this one. It does EVERYTHING and cleans itself.
I hope you enjoyed these 4 healthy recipes we’re loving right now. What healthy recipes are you loving?
It might be worth purchasing this since my son eats a jar of almond butter every week. Looks amazing. Have a great week, Kippi #kippiathome
Hi Kippi, we love this blender for so many reasons, but this almond butter is sooooo good. Lovely and warm. xx
Such a great blender! I will definitely be trying your recipes. It looks like it will be a good week to enjoy some warm tomato soup!
Hi Lynne, it really is a great blender. Hope you enjoy the recipes. The soup is lovely for cold winter days xx
