4th of July Decor

The 4th of July is just around the corner and I thought it would be fun to share some easy 4th of July decor for your home!

We LOVE summer here in Scituate Harbor and I always think of this holiday, 4th of July, as being so special here. We have so many traditions around this holiday – the annual 4th of July parade in Hingham and the unofficial fireworks on Peggotty Beach in Scituate.

I love the beautiful colors in the American flag and decided to use the red, white and blue as a jumping off point for our home’s 4th of July decor.

I found many of these elements at our local hardware store and garden centers. So I think you’ll be able to find these elements this week or weekend in time for the fourth.

Okay, here’s a peek at our front yard in all it’s 4th of July glory Monday morning:

Why Decorate Your Home for the 4th of July

The 4th of July marks America’s independence and I think it just show patriotism to decorate one’s home. I leave our flag and the flags in our window boxes up all summer.

Let’s take a closer look, shall we? I’ll break everything down and also share some sweet photos of Max and Poppy. They wanted to get in on the action, too!

Line Your Walkway with Flags

Pretty flags lining brick walkway

I got these affordable flags at my local hardware store in the harbor, but these flags are very similar. Lining your walkway with flags creates a focal point to your front door. I took some of these photos in the glorious sunshine we had on Sunday afternoon – it felt like a perfect summer day!

Special Tip: If you don’t have a walkway you can also line your front yard with little flags.

Starry Wreath

I found this beautiful driftwood and starfish wreath at Frost and Found in Duxbury. I really loved the vintage style bow.

This style wreath is perfect for our home with it’s coastal elements, but you don’t need to live near the sea to use a wreath like this! I have made a few wreaths you could try at home, too, like my floating starfish wreath and my rope wreath.

This was perfect for our front entry the right mix of coastal and old world charm.

Vintage Urns & Stars and Stripes

Of course, I had to add the more of the same flags I used on our walkway to my vintage urns.

Vintage urns filled with white flowers, ivy and potato vine and a little American flag

Plants in the Urns are:

  • Sweet Potato Vines (Caroline Bewitched)
  • Danish Delights “Golden Child” Hedera
  • Double Impatients in Silhouette Appleblossom

I planted the urns on Sunday and had so much fun picking out some new plants and flowers. This is the first time I’m using the ivy type plants (I thought it looked kind of English) and the double Impatiens look like sweet little roses to me.

Apparel Turned Into Home Decor

I searched high and low trying to find a banner or bunting the right size for the little area flanking our doorway. Instead I bought these scarves at Joanne’s.

Patriotic Window Boxes

Patriotic window boxes with whit flowers and vines

As you all know, I really love flowers and enjoy planting our window boxes with each changing season. This summer I decided to go for mostly white and green with a tiny hint of pink. I nearly went for all white BUT thought the pale pink impatiens add a little warmth and summer fun! The also pick up the pink in the Silverberry Petunias.

Flowers in the window boxes:

  • Sweet Potato Vines (Caroline Bewitched)
  • Pink Impatiens
  • Endless Flirtation Blush Violet
  • Silverberry Petunia
  • Superbells White Calibrachoa

Many of these flowers are new to me this year with the exception of the sweet potato vines. I use them every year and love when they trail down in the fall – it looks so romantic.

The front of our home is North facing which means it gets shade most of the day (a few hours of sunlight in the morning and afternoon) so I’m limited with what I can plant.

I absolutely love the blush violets. Look how delicate and pretty they are:

Many people ask where we bought these window boxes but the previous owner installed them so I don’t know the source. Luke did build me DIY Coastal Window Boxes for the pool house and the look very similar.

Special Tip: When planting window boxes for planters be sure to check light requirements for selected plants.

Of course, our window boxes also had to include the American flag. I used one size up from the other flags lining our walkway.

Get the Whole Family Involved

Luke spent the morning pressure washing the walkway and stamping paver set in to prevent weeds. In some photos you may notice the brick has a more gray / white look to it. I’m hoping this stays as I love the look!

He was covered in dirt and mud from all his hard work. I thought Max and Poppy look a bit more camera ready 😉

Aren’t they adorable. Poppy got the sweet little bow at the groomers and Max loves his Team USA shirt!

Dear Danielle, Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Thank you for this timely post. The first of June always starts me thinking of decorating with American flags. Your house and designs are just perfect-fun, seasonal and beautiful! They also look ‘real’ to me, like its a true family home and not an overdone magazine photo shoot. Please keep posting 🙂

May I ask what is the color of your door and shutters?
