7 Decorating Ideas to Steal from the 2016 HGTV Dream Home
I partnered with my friends at GMC on this post, it was so much fun to drive the brand NEW 2017 GMC Acadia to the HGTV Dream Home.
So, I gave you the tour and the dream drive the other week, click here, if you missed it. The thing is, I’m still dreaming about this DREAM home.
Stroll down the driveway with me for a closer look. Designer Brian Patrick Flynn did such an amazing job on this home. I didn’t share all my photos in the other post.
7 Decorating Ideas to Steal from the 2016 HGTV Dream Home
Statement Walls
This wall is magical. Looking at the vintage surfers floating effortlessly across the wall on the waves is so relaxing. This large wall mural makes the space look even bigger, it draws your eyes up to the amazing lights and high ceiling… Not to mention the spectacular view outside!
I definitely want to do something similar in our boys’ room. My head is spinning with ideas!
Mix Modern with Antiques
By adding some vintage items you can warm up a space full of new furnishing. This wonderful vintage chair brings charm and patina to a lovely guest room.
I also love the silver trays hung over the guest bed! A nice touch:
There’s More Choices Than Just Subway for Tile
Okay, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE subway tile. Love it, but in a Dream Home you can push the boundaries. Bold statements were made in the kitchen and the bathrooms.
The kitchen tiles – marble mosaic basketweave add a visual interest and they were taken up to the ceilings.
Blue penny rounds are fun and playful in the guest bathroom:

Add Visual Interest with Pattern
Patterns are all over the Dream Home, from upholstery and curtain panels to plush pillows out by the pool, and on the couch. A love for pattern and texture is everywhere. It makes the home feel so welcoming and cozy.
I’ve never met a pillow I didn’t like. I’m just sayin’….
Plant Power
Plants were placed beautifully inside and outside the dream home. Ferns, succulents, palms, flowers – these all make the house feel more alive and fresh.
Lush flowers and fragrances abound at the Dream Home.
Merge the Boundaries Between Inside and Outside
Would you have hung an outdoor swing inside? I’m now thinking it’s a brilliant idea and wondering where I can put one in our home…
Create cozy outdoor rooms to lead your guests outside:
I loved sunning myself by the pool:
Match the Dog House to your Dream Home
What?!? Even dogs have style and BIG dreams!
As you know it was hard to leave such a beautiful spot. I hope you got some fun ideas from this and the other tour I shared. Do you think you’ll be incorporating any of them into your own home?
A big thank you to my friends at GMC and HGTV for a dream come true trip!
Danielle, all great comments. You really get some points here. Also the patina chair in the room, that’s perfect for the ones that don’t have much space either to have a bedside table neither have it to extra chairs for visitors!! Tks for sharing, kisses ML
It’s all just so beautiful! I especially love the feature wall.
I feel good that I’ve kept just a few old bits of furniture I’ve inherited, it’s easy to think they won’t go with modern stuff but just a piece here or there looks great – I need to check where I’ve put our bits and make sure I’m using them to their best advantage
