7 Outdoor Build Plans
7 Amazing Outdoor Build Plans for your home! Many of you know that my husband is quite handy. I’ve rounded up some of my favorite outdoor build plans he’s created.
I realize this weekend is Memorial Day (the unofficial start to summer) and you could make some of these in time for the holiday weekend.
Many of these are projects are still in use in our yard / home.
7 Outdoor Build Plans
Outdoor Dining Table and Benches
This is an oldie but a goodie. I was IN LOVE with a teak table they had at an outdoor furniture store they had in the harbor, but we couldn’t afford it so Luke built me an outdoor dining table and matching benches out of cedar. I can’t tell you how popular this post has been!
Of course, teak will last longer than cedar BUT you know what? We’re still using this table and I still love it so much. Here’s how the table looks now. It’s weathered but I think it gives it character. You can sand the table and benches to get back to the warmer wood hue:
I shared how to hang string lights the other week. They add so much ambiance.
Coastal Window Box
It’s no secret how much I love flowers and plants. Luke surprised me one year with this beautiful window box. It’s made out of PVC and he built-in a watering system.
Lean-To Potting Shed
We no longer have this attached to the back of our shed, instead we’ve moved our raised beds here. Having a dedicated space for planting and supplies was wonderful!
Built-in Benches
Our little pool house is quite small – only 8 x 10 and we need to use every possible inch. Building in slatted benches meant we could store outdoor cushions and pillows while also allowing ample seating.
Coastal Cedar Doormat
This was another project that I really liked something I found in the harbor and we couldn’t afford it. We carved a little whale into ours but you could leave it with no detail.
Kids’ Picnic Table and Benches
Our kids (now 17 and 13) have long outgrown this set but it was so sweet while it lasted!
I sure do miss these days. They used to ham it up for the camera! Now, they don’t want to be photographed…
Raised Garden Beds
Growing in our garden makes me so happy. We have planted vegetables every year as a family. It’s wonderful to go out and pick lettuce for salad or to go eat tomatoes right off the plant.
Why Should You Make Your Own Furniture?
Often times it’s cheaper than new furniture. I know wood prices are crazy but many of these projects use pine or cedar which is more affordable than some other woods.
You can completely customize the projects to your needs like a tight space or a need for hidden storage.
Lastly, it is a wonderful sense of accomplishment when you finish the project.
Luke truly has found a love for woodworking. He built this white oak table for me.
Often times we work on projects together as a family too, but I know you guys already know that.
Like the tool shed we built last summer.

Good Job Luke!!!! A wonderful hobby.
Hi Josette, he really does and he found this passion over the last nearly 12 years of me writing the blog. He will blush when he reads your kind comments. Thank you xx
