Halloween Labels with Faux Rust
Halloween will be here before we know it. Learn how to make Halloween labels with faux rust, which are perfect to use in Halloween decor, tablescapes, and for Halloween parties.
Do you LOVE Halloween? It is one of my favorite holidays. Growing up, my mom always made me the best Halloween costumes, and I’d always be way too excited to go out trick or treating and could never eat my dinner. I also used to get quite mad that I had to wear a big bulky jacket, I always thought it ruined the look of my costume….
Well, my kids are huge fans, too. They love getting dressed up and helping come up with fun ideas for around the house. Last year we did a family friendly Halloween entry and used one of John’s drawings to create a giant witch silhouette. We already have so many fun ideas, but think the witch will be making an appearance again, as well.
My friend Kristen has organized a really fun Halloween Free Printable and Vignette Hop. My friends are sharing some beautiful, spooky, and fun printables, which you can see at the end of this post.
I made some Halloween Labels with faux rust and I’m just so excited to share them with you!
I staged this photos up in Luke’s office, with his moody dark walls. Thankfully he wasn’t on a conference call at the time or there probably would have been some explaining to do.
Halloween Labels
I created the labels in Photoshop using some images from The Graphic’s Fairy, I particularly love the skull and the arsenic label.
You can use the labels as is, but I wanted to age mine a little. I thought it would make them more creepy and feel more haunted.
Aging Halloween Labels and Adding Faux Rust
I was inspired by this post by Diana at By Dreams Factory. She created beautiful DIY Faux Rusted French Labels. To age these I followed her technique. I used coffee, sugar and cinnamon.
You can read all her tips here.
I couldn’t believe how 3 simple items, I already had in our cupboard, could create such a realistic affect.
It was sooooo fun to age them. I was listening to music and loving the mingled fragrance of coffee and cinnamon.
After the aging process I could start using them.

Ideas for Using the Halloween Labels
I thought it would be fun to use these labels on items we already had in our basement. I brought up old books which, I spray painted a few years back, bottles, vases and even empty Oui yogurt pots.
I used matte modge podge and this decoupage brush to affix them to objects. I only applied matte mod podge to the reverse side but you could seal on top, too, for added protection. Here’s how they look decoupaged:
The brown bottles are actually plastic, I used them a few years ago here.
The arsenic one is a Oui Yogurt pot. Don’t they look cute? I think they’d be adorable used with wild flowers and candles spread across a table for a fun and festive Halloween tablescape.
I decided to put a tea light in this one for added ambiance.
Okay, now check out how they look up stairs with a moody and dark background.
The candelabra was from World Market a few years ago. I used it on this Halloween Mantel.
I hope you love them as much as I do 😉

I love these, Danielle! The faux rust treatment is so cool. I have to try this!
I used the bottle labels last year for miniatures at a doll Skeleton Bash–love the idea of aging them. I just sponged a bit of ‘dirt’ on them…lol. Cute collections!
These are the BEST, Danielle! What a great idea for Halloween. Love them.
Hugs, Jamie
These are awesome, thanks for sharing with all of us!
I am sorry if I missed it, but what is that beautiful blue/teal wall color? Edit: never mind I found it! 😉
They no longer make the original color I painted it Seraphanite, but we repainted it with Hidden Sapphire. 😉
