Easy Flower Arranging For Spring
Flowers are the most affordable way for changing the mood of a room. Today I’m sharing easy flower arranging for spring.
Whenever I think of spring, I think of spring flowers. So I thought it would be a perfect spring DIY to share my tips and tricks for arranging spring flowers as part of Krista’s Spring Seasonal Simplicity Hop.
I’m sure tools and glue come to mind when one thinks of DIY, but I think a simple DIY can be as easy as arranging flowers. This doesn’t have to break the bank either. I usually find my flowers at the market (the super market NOT the flower market) and there are usually lots of sales on. I either buy mine at Trader Joe’s or Shaw’s depending on where I’m shopping.

Easy Spring Flowers – My Tips
Gather a mix of flowers – different shapes, heights, and textures
I like to think of “green” as the neutral so I always purchase leaves and greenery as a filler. Then other flowers with pops of color.
I was drawn to the dianthus / green ball. How pretty and different is that?
Vessels can change the feeling of the arrangement
I keep all my vases and containers on a shelf in the basement. Any time flowers are delivered I keep the vase. I think this clear vase came from one of these deliveries. I don’t just use vases, though, I love using antiques – jugs, ironstone pitchers, galvanized pitchers, really any container can be upcycled to use as a vase!
You can see adding these dainty purple flowers to an ironstone vase gives this a vintage / classic look. These flowers would look completely different in sleek glass. For the arrangement on the center of our table I decided to use clear glass.
Place all the flowers out together
I like seeing all the blooms at once, so I can reach for ones I fancy. Creating a flower arrangement is all about sculpting and feeling. Sometimes, I’ll put something in and it doesn’t look right or fit so I’ll take it out and try something else.
I originally thought I was going to put the hydrangeas in with some yellow flowers but they just worked so well with the tulips and roses.
Always remove leaves and cut the stems on an angle
I use secateurs to cut my flowers. They give a nice clean cut and are easy to use. So if you don’t have a pair, I highly recommend investing in some. I fill my vase with water and begin cutting flowers to fit the height. Sometimes I have to cut more off than expected. It’s better to cut less and cut again. Leaves are quite pretty on stems but I recommend cutting any that are below the waterline. It can make the water murky and a algae will form in the water (which smells really bad) and also makes the flowers not last as long.
Add the Plant Food
Most flowers from the market come with plant food. These nourish the flowers and while some people throw these packets away I always put them in the water. I’ve also heard asprin helps prolong flowers.
Other Ways to Prolong the life of cut flowers
Make sure your vase has enough water. I always top mine up. If the water is looking very murky I’ll rinse the vase out and replace it. Another tip, (if you can help it) is cut flowers do much better out of direct sunlight. I know you can’t avoid it in some rooms but just so you know flowers in darker rooms will last longer than say a sunroom that gets sunlight all day.
I hope these tips were helpful! Now you can see all the pretty flowers in our dining room.
Around the vase is a pretty moss wreath I made the other week, you can read about that here. I also made moss napkin rings and together they make a pretty moss tablescape for spring.
There are a few more flower arrangements on the Welsh Dresser along with some mini fiddle leaf figs.
In addition to adding fresh flowers, I also added this piece of art from Minted. It previously was in the hallway. It’s called Gentle Tempest by Kelly Money. I love how it picks up the whites, blue and greens in the room.
The brass candle sticks on the table are vintage and look sweet, even without candlesticks.
It’s amazing how flowers can brighten a room!
I often get questions about sources so I’m included a source list.

Danielle, your spring flowers all look so beautiful! I live 45 minutes from a Trader Joe’s 🙁. When I go I always buy flowers. We do live near an amazing flower farm but they cost a little more than TJ’s. Spring is right around the corner.
I CAN’T wait for spring! It seems like mother nature didn’t get the memo as we keep having snow storms here this week. Trader Joe’s is a great source, our closest is about 20 minutes, but also love them from the flower farm which is closer. I know they’re more expensive buying them from a flower farm but since they’re fresh picked they last longer.
Gorgeous! There is nothing more lovely than the feeling a bouquet of pretty flowers adds to a room!
Agree. Flowers add joy to a room.
This is so pretty! I love it for Spring
Thanks, Rhonda, spring is my absolute favorite!
What a pretty arrangement! I love grabbing a bundle of flowers every time I go to Trader Joes…It doesn’t happen very often since they’re on the other side of the valley, but sure love them!
Buying flowers for myself is never a waste of money. They make me so very happy.
Nothing says spring like fresh flowers! I love that dianthus as well – such a pretty and unique look. Just wish they lasted a bit longer in an arrangement. Thanks for being part of today’s hop, Danielle!
Fresh flowers add so much to a room! Thanks for organizing the hop, Krista.
Just beautiful and your beautiful Welsh cabinet makes such a lovely backdrop! XO
Thanks, Christy. It’s one of my favorite pieces of furniture in our home.
