DIY Rope and Starfish Wreath

With some rope and pretty starfish, learn to create this simple wreath. My DIY Rope and Starfish Wreath is perfect if you live on the coast or just want to feel like you do.

DIY Rope and Starfish Wreath | Finding Silver Pennies

For quite some time I’ve seen these beautiful wreaths in our area. They are made by twisting rope. They look so pretty and classic and I was so excited because I was going to show you guys how easy it is to make them when they sell them in stores for over 100 bucks. I got my rope and my glue gun and I was READY.

Wreath first attempt

Well, the only problem is.

I couldn’t get it to work…

Wreath Fail

As I glued it kept pulling apart as I squeezed the new bits together.

I think it would have worked better with a straw wreath form and maybe something a bit larger.

Honestly, I wanted to cry.

Don’t worry. I didn’t.

It was an epic DIY FAIL.

I will figure out that other wreath, but in the meantime, I thought I would share something more simple for Krista’s Seasonal Simplicity Wreath Hop. I don’t want you guys also having a DIY fail. 😉

I still really wanted to use the rope as I love the texture, color, and coastal feel.

So here’s how to make the other wreath.

How to Make a Rope & Starfish Wreath

Materials

Materials for DIY Rope and Starfish Wreath | Finding Silver Pennies

  • Wreath Form (I got mine at Dollar Store)
  • Floral Wire (Dollar Store)
  • Glue Gun and Lots of Glue Sticks
  • 1/2″ Rope (I got mine at the hardware store in Scituate Harbor)
  • Starfish (I had in the basement)

Method

Step 1 – Make sure the end of the rope is at the back of your wreath form. I started by using the floral wire to attach the rope to the outside of the form.

Step 2 – Work in sections. Apply hot glue and press the rope into place.

Step 3  – Continue until the whole wreath form is covered by the rope.

Step 4 – Attach small starfish with hot glue.

Here’s how the wreath looks on the She Shed.

We’re actually planning on turning the She Shed into a pool house this summer.

The inside is getting a little makeover and so is the window boxes.

I just shoved some moss in them for now 🙂

It’s horrible when that happens with diy. You get more and more frustrated it gets worse. Well for me anyway.

This turned out so pretty and is perfect for your home.

Hi Danielle, I can’t believe how many times I’ve read your tutorials and this is the first time I’ve notice you mention Scituate Harbor. I can only assume you’re speaking of Massachusetts. I’m actually at my condo in Weymouth packing up to Move to the Scituate side of Hummarock on Ocean Ave. I hope I run into one day down at the Harbor. How exciting is this? LoL. I’m a bit star struck right now. Hahaha. Anyhow, I’ve made these type of wreaths with different Wreath forms. The trick that works best for me is wrapping the wreath form with… Read more »
