Coastal New England Summer Home Tour

Our seaside town is most magical in the summer months. I’m so happy to welcome you inside for our coastal New England Summer Home Tour.

When dreaming about summer and the end of school I had no idea we’d be in the midst of a pandemic. Life is still very far from “normal” but we are so grateful to call this little house by the sea home. It’s been our refuge and our retreat and now we look forward to a summer at home. The boys’ last day of school is tomorrow and our week has been punctuated with virtual graduations from elementary school and middle school and car parades. As you can imagine this mama has been crying a lot…

Today, I’m taking part in the Seasonal Simplicity Summer Home Tour hosted by my friend Krista.

If you’re new here, welcome to our home! I’m Danielle and I share our New England home with my husband, Luke, our two sons, John & Conor, and two rescue dogs, Max and Poppy.

Our home is a 1927 Dutch Colonial and we fell in love with it the moment we saw it. We’ve lived here for 7 years and have slowly made it our own over time.

We just planted these beautiful trees in our front yard – a seven son flowering tree and a weeping cherry on the side of our home.

I actually took far too many photos of the front exterior so I think I’ll write a separate post all about that.

Our front door and shutters are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Buxton Blue in high gloss. It is the most wonderful watery blue 😉

Summer Living Room

This is the room that’s in the front of our home. Our sweet little Max loves to perch on the back of the couch and watch everyone walking to the shops and restaurants in Scituate Harbor.

Not much as changed in here except for the Monstera thriving. Can you believe how tall it is? My family gave it to me for Mother’s Day two years ago.

My husband built the sofa table but I’m actually hoping he’ll built a raw edge table here. If you look closely you can see Max.

Aw, hi, Max! I always find this room a bit difficult to photograph.

The pillows are brand new. I just bought them at Elburne and I love the coastal, yet classic vibe they give our room.

I love clipping flowers from our yard to use inside. These beautiful purply blue flowers are from our False Blue Indigo plant.

I love using candles through out our home to make it feel welcoming.

Our bar cart is well stocked for summer cocktails. The beautiful fish print is by my friend Jeanne, who actually grew up in our home.

As you can see, I love to mix white slipcovers, vintage orientals, classic decor with modern and relaxed finds.

We very much live in our home. This is where we watch movies and TV together.

Our couch is extra deep and that was very important to us. White slipcovers can be hard but I have some tips on keeping them clean, click here.

Summer Dining Room

Our dining room is open plan into our living room through beautiful wood columns.

My husband built us this beautiful farmhouse table out of heart pine which was reclaimed from a factory down south. You can read more about that here.

The beautiful seascape is by my friend Becky O’Toole of The Pink Frame. She used all the blues I LOVE.

The chandelier is vintage and looks so pretty during the day, but also in the evenings.

I love using cut peonies in here. They always remind me of my grandmother.

Flanking the peonies are hand blown hurricane lanterns from Ikea. We always light candles with dinner but often times we eat meals outside in the summer. Our dining chairs are always from Ikea.

The Welsh Dresser is from England and I found it on Facebook yard sale. I’d always dreamed of having a piece like this. I love showcasing vintage ironstone and plants. The only thing I’ve been buying during the stay at home orders, other than groceries, is plants. These ferns are from PlantsandPonytails.

I love the life they add to our display and our home.

Aren’t they so pretty.

I also have a pothos on the dresser. I love how they trail.

Over in the corner of the room, is a painted cabinet – painted in Miss Mustard Seed Eulalie’s Sky. I always like to change the decor over here based on the season.

That branch is from the Seven Son Flowering Tree in our front yard. We had to trim some of the lower branches.

One other part of this room I want to share is over by the windows. I painted this faux marble console table a few years back.

Hanging above it is a vintage lithograph by Dendy Sadler that used to hang in my family’s restaurant. The decanter and wine glasses were my parents and I love the pale blush color.

Oh, and that sweet little tree I bought last week from PlantsandPonytails. It’s a Banyan Tree and reminded me of the one the boys climbed on while we were in Balboa Gardens in San Diego last summer.

We’re going to skip the kitchen because it’s just such a mess with everyone home! Come on out to the sunroom.

Summer Sunroom

This is one of my favorite spaces. This room has wonderful light with all the windows and gets amazing coastal breezes from Scituate Harbor.

This space overlooks our pool and the firepit so has wonderful views. I love painting out here and our oldest also loves to draw and paint at this table. The table was falling apart when we found it and look rebuilt it and repaired one of the feet. It’s painted in a custom chalk paint color. I painted the floors white last summer and also added these wishbone chairs.

I love keeping things simple on the table. I love cutting flowers form the yard. These lilacs have a beautiful fragrance.

My husband and I actually enjoyed a very romantic dinner out here for our anniversary back in May. This is a view of the sunroom from outside.
