Wicked Good Halloween Ideas
Wicked good Halloween Ideas from delicious cookies to spooky decor to homemade costumes.
Halloween is my FAVORITE holiday and I feel like due to the pandemic it didn’t really happen here last year. Sooooooo, I’m very excited for Trick or Treating in Scituate Harbor this year and getting our home Halloween ready! My sons love Halloween just as much as I do. They love going to Savers to grab vintage stuff to turn into costume. In fact, John has two skeletons currently perched at his keyboard in his bedroom.
Wicked Good Halloween Ideas
We still need to pull all of our Halloween stuff out from the basement but going back through our archives to give you some fun ideas for Halloween 2021! Simply click the title or highlighted links to read more about the ideas!
Delicious Reese’s Pieces Cookies
These cookies are pretty easy to make and a real crowd pleaser if you’re having a gathering this year!
Homemade Costumes
When I was little I loved dressing up. I used to get sooooooo excited about Halloween and the costume my mom made me, I never could eat dinner!!!!! My kids are the same way. I think Conor is going to be a singing cowboy this year and John is going to be a mad scientist, but it still might change.
Here are some favorite costumes from past years:
The Joker costume mostly was sourced from Savers. I used liquid latex to create the scars and face paint for his make up.
The year before he dressed up a spooky crow. It was pretty creapy but fun!
John loves doing creepy while Conor always goes for the leading man, here’s Conor as Maverick in Top Gun:
One year we all dressed up as Dr. Who characters. It was so fun. No one down in Scituate Harbor knew it was me! I don’t really have great photos of it though!
Watercolor Hallowen Free Printables
I created four watercolor paintings that could be downloaded and printed for labels or tags. Perhaps for a goodie bag for a Halloween party.
Fun Ways to Use Skeletons in Home Decor
We usually have skeletons all over our house! I’m thinking about maybe putting one outside on our front steps this year.
Here’s a glimpse of some from years passed:
Doesn’t this one look like Max?
Another one hiding:
Add a Skull Bowl to a Desk or Dresser
This lifelike resin skull was from Amazon a few years ago. Fun for a party to fill with wrapped candy or great as is for a decor element.
Mummy Cookies
Chocolate dipped oreos are a sweet way to turn a cookie into a Halloween treat! These are so much fun to make and pretty easy for a fuss free Halloween dessert.
Faux Rust Printables for Halloween Decor
Grab these faux rust printables and use them on home decor for Halloween.
Dollar Store Crows
Dollar Store Crows are so versatile. I love using them in vignettes and on mantels for just the right amount of spooky in our Halloween decor.
I tend to sprinkle them throughout our house 😉
DIY Lanterns
Make your own lanterns with black paint, a stencil, and simple lunch bags. They glow at night!
Polka Dot Pumpkins
Speaking of lanterns, grab your drill and drill holes into the pumpkin. It’s much quicker than carving pumpkins. They look so pretty on a tablescape, too.
DIY Witch Silhouette
Finally one of my very favorite projects. We turned one of John’s drawings into a witch silhouette. We used a projector to project his drawing larger and then traced it and cut it out. Created a stand for the back on a hinge and spray painted the entire piece black.

I am not that much into Halloween but I do like your black crows with the black books.
I also like un-carved pumpkins…..I know party pooper!
Hi Josette, I get it! Halloween isn’t for everyone. I think it just brings back wonderful childhood memories for me of Trick or Treating and homemade costumes. I love carrying on that tradition with my kids.
Yes!!! Of course we did the kids’ things but I must admit, when they got older and out of it….I was happy!!!! xx
I’m not a huge Halloween person, but I love looking at everyone else’s decor and costumes. Laura
I totally get it. We love it here and LOVE seeing the creative decor of our neighbors and all the amazing costumes in the harbor on Halloween xx
