Spring Decorating for the Dining Room

Ever since I was a young girl, spring has been my favorite season and I always enjoy setting the table for special spring gatherings from Easter to Mother’s Day and everyday occasions with family and friends. Today I’m going to be sharing some spring decorating for the dining room!

I think I’ve told you all this before, but I grew up in my family’s restaurant, a colonial mansion. I used to watch my mom make each room of the mansion look cozy and inviting with beautiful florals, layering delicate fragrances, and decorating with charming antiques.

I thought I’d look back into my archives to share some spring decorating inspiration – I’ll be sharing some DIYs, some crafts, and some Easter table settings with you.

I promise none of these ideas are too hard to recreate and they don’t cost much, especially if you gather flowers or branches from your yard, but Trader Joe’s is always an affordable option, too.

Why should you decorate for spring?

After a long winter here in New England I embrace spring with open arms. It’s my favorite season because all my special holidays are in May – my birthday, Mother’s Day, and our wedding anniversary. I enjoy spring cleaning – really deep cleaning our home including washing all the slipcovers and then I like to come up with simple ideas to bring the new season inside!

Okay, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite spring crafts, floral arranging, and free printables to help you come up with ideas for your own homes.

Simple Eucalyptus in Minituare Glass Vases

This look is so affordable. I used simple seeded eucalyptus, a sea grass runner, and simple blown glass containers from IKEA. You could replicate this same look for under $20. The eucalyptus has an amazing smell and lasts for a few weeks in the home.

Decoupage Eggs

These eggs are so sweet and perfect to decorate an Easter table. Simply print these printables and decoupage with mod podge.

Make Paper Peonies

Making paper flowers is so much fun. These are simple to make with tissue paper. You can also make them in any color you please.

These also look very pretty on packages or gift wrap.

Use Eggshells

Don’t throw those eggs away when making an omelette! Save them to make pretty containers for pansies or grape hyacinths.

Happy Easter Printable

This sweet viola wreath would be perfect for Easter place cards.

Aged Terra Cotta Pots

Simply age terra cotta pots (from the Dollar Store or Michaels) with paint. You can put a pretty plant at each table setting for a party favor. Fun idea for Mother’s Day!

Gold Foil Eggs

These eggs are the prettiest shade of blue. I painted wooden eggs and added gold foil. I love to bring them out each year to use on the mantel or table. You won’t believe how easy they are to make!

Tulips and Speckled Eggs

Nothing is more joyous than a gorgeous bunch of tulips at the center of a table. This spring brunch tablescape highlights gorgeous tulips from Trader Joe’s and speckled eggs from HomeGoods. You could use the gold foil eggs (above in the same way).

Pansy Watercolor Eggs

Another fun decoupage project. Use my watercolor pansies on eggs (as pictured) or use them to create place cards or menus for a spring gathering.

DIY Birds Nests

These are one of my favorite projects EVER. Get your kids or grandkids to go outside with you and forage your yard for branches, sticks, twigs and anything else you might want to add to your nests. I also used seedpods and dried flowers from our yard. Make these nests for decor on a tablescape, shelf or mantel. We added some Cadbury Mini Eggs to our nests but you could make some out of clay and paint them.

Decorate with Moss

I love using moss in home decor and on tablescapes. I made the moss in the middle of the table with sheets of moss and also made matching napkin rings. Get the wreath tutorial here. It all looks great paired with flowers from the supermarket!

Flop Eared Bunny

Everyone loves this sweet flop eared bunny! Will he be gracing your Easter table this year?

DIY Dip Dyed Napkins

Dip dyed napkins are so much fun to make (especially when the weather gets a little warmer). You can make them in any color dye you fancy! I used an indigo color and paired it with fragrant hyacinths.

A Living Spring Centerpiece

I used living pansies and tulips for this living centerpiece. It’s fun to watch this grow and blossom.
