Elderflower Cocktail
One of my favorite fragrances and tastes is that of elderflower and I’m so excited to share this easy Elderflower Cocktail recipe with you!
Our garden feels like such a magical spot currently – pretty white fluffy elderflowers are in bloom, our gooseberries are the most vibrant red (ready for the picking), rhubarb is growing like crazy, and our lettuce (now that we’ve put fencing up to keep the bunnies out) is leafy and full!
A few years ago we went to a local plant sale and got an elderflower bush. I’d never seen the flower in person, nor had a tried elderflower.
I enjoy making elderflower cordial each year with Conor and love this mixed with fresh soda water on a very hot day. It really is so refreshing.
I also love sipping elderflower cocktails by the pool. We just made a fresh batch of elderflower cordial and I’ve created a video of the process but wanted to share this really easy and refreshing cocktail recipe.
Jump to RecipeWhat is Elderflower?
Elderflower is the small white flowers growing on an elderberry bush. The flowers are fragrant and have a fresh, green, fruity taste to them.
- It enjoys to be planted in a sunny location.
- The flowers bloom mid-May to late June, depending on location.
- The only parts of the plant that are edible are the flowers and the berries but need to be cooked before being consumed.
- It’s thought to have medicinal properties – it supports fever management and supports a healthy respiratory system.
- Elderflower cordial can be made by steeping the flowers and lemons into sugar water and filtering.

There is a cocktail called Hugo Spritz- made with elderflower. Less sweet than Aperol Spritz. I heard about it on the Today Show and had to try it – I have a nephew called Hugo!
Oooooh, Mary, that sounds lovely! I will look up the recipe xx
