DIY Hydrangea Wreath
Is there any better decor than FREE decor? This DIY Hydrangea Wreath is easy to make and was completely free. I’m excited to share how you can make you’re own wreath!
Foraged Flowers
For home decor I always take my cue from Mother Nature in every season. This autumn season is bringing the most beautiful dried hydrangeas and vibrant autumn leaves. The other weekend I was so excited to pick hydrangeas that dried on our bushes. I used our strawberry vanilla hydrangeas.
I was so excited to get out there and forage and create – you may notice I’m wearing my PJs. Ha! Ha!
How gorgeous are the hues? I LOVE them in this chippy basket. Get more ideas for decorating with baskets.
For creating this wreath you’ll need lots of dried hydrangeas. I used all in the basket.
What You’ll Need to Create This Wreath
You probably have all the materials you need which will make this wreath free. If not, I’ll link some of the things I used.

- Dried Hydrangeas
- Grape Vine Wreath
- Floral Wire
- Aerosol Hairspray or Fixative (I used fixative)
- Clippers
Making A DIY Hydrangea Wreath
This was soooooo much fun and so easy!
I worked on this wreath outside by the pool area as it can be a little messy with the flowers shedding. I placed stems in and worked my way around the wreath. Make sure you cut the hydrangeas long enough so you have enough branch to pull through.
When I was happy with the layout I secured the branches. See below.
Special Tip: Secure the hydrangeas into the wreath with wire and cut the longer stems so the wreath can lay flat on the door or wall when hanging.
This wreath came together pretty quickly. Less than thirty minutes. To prevent the petals from shedding and to help preserve the wreath it’s a good idea to spray it. I’ve read about people using aerosol hairspray but I opted for spray fixative for art which we had in the basement. I don’t really have hairspray.
Special Tip: Spray wreath with hairspray or fixative to seal it and preserve it.

I love the vibrant colors. You may want to hold your wreath up while working on it to see if there are any holes or missing spaces.

Displaying Your Wreath
I have our wreath displayed outside on our front door.
I love the very organic and natural feature of this wreath. To me it feels like it’s growing on our door.

You could alternatively display this wreath inside and it may last a bit longer out of the elements.
