Decorating with Collections: In the Living Room (Part 3)
This is part 3 in this series where I’m sharing fun ways to decorate with collections. In part 1 we toured our autumn dining room. In part 2 we toured our front hall. Next up we’re in the living room!
Cozy Fall Mantel
I bet you can’t guess what I used on the mantel! Ah, you got it! Vintage books. The more the merrier. I also used my ironstone collection and some turkey feathers and faux fall folliage. I got that a few years ago from Crate and Barrel but they still carry it. I love that you can bend the stems to fit into all different size vessels.
Here’s a closer look:
I love the imperfect nature of the books and yes, you see more shells too!
Our mantel is original and we refaced the fireplace with fossilized ocean floor and painted the interior. You can see more about the fireplace makeover here and more about making this area feel cozy. We really love spending time in here – sipping tea, reading books, and watching the flames. This is the most realistic gas fireplace I’ve seen.
I moved furniture around so the leather couch is now facing the fireplace along with two swivel chairs. All used to be in the boys’ playroom.
Over in the corner I have a marble topped cabinet and I added the chelsea clock.
Sadly, the clock doesn’t work so it’s always 1:45. I love how it looks with the painting and the vintage lamp.
