A Beautiful Snowy Woodland Walk
We enjoy taking our dogs, Max and Poppy, on mini adventures in the woods. Would you like to join us on a beautiful snowy woodland walk?

Over the weekend, we enjoyed our real first snowfall here in Scituate. The kind of snow that is just so pretty to look at – really giant, big flakes – but not too dangerous. We decided to bundle up and take the dogs with us. We drove over to Marshfield and had the entire woods to ourselves. It was so magical!
Join Us on the Trail

We parked at Union Street Woodland and walked into Nelson Memorial Forest. There’s a great parking lot there and everything is well signposted. We were the only ones there which was really lovely.

I know many of you ask for sources so my winter coat is from Outside In in Cohasset and is by Rab. It’s an English company and so warm. They actually have it on Amazon if you don’t live locally. The hat is handmade and I got it two years ago at Wellesley Market. My winter boots are these by Sorel. I’ve had them for a few years.
The Quiet of Snow
It was so quiet and peaceful. Did you know snow absorbs sound and that’s why it seems more quiet during or just after snowfall. Light fluffy snow can absorb up to 60% of sound. Being out in Nature and experiencing the quiet beauty was just what we all needed.

So much to explore.

Down By The Water
I love trails that combine woodlands and water views. We meandered down trails.

We walked down a steep incline to the North River. Our friends live just opposite and it’s amazing how different this river looks in winter in comparison to the blue skies of summer. A little bit grayer but just as pretty.

Our Sweet Poppy
Our sweet Poppy is now 14 and she adores going on walks but can’t always walk as far as she used to. She has arthritis and is on medicine that’s really helping her. Once a month I take her to the vet for Librela and it it’s truly a miracle cure. It takes away the inflammation and helps her with pain. So we’re so happy we can take her on more adventures now because she’s still a young girl at heart!

Conor was one when we adopted Poppy so she’s really grown up with the kids. We keep trying to prepare ourselves because we just don’t know how much longer we’ll have her for.
More Trails We Love
Some other favorites to walk are:
- Norris Reservation in Norwell – in warmer weather we like packing a picnic to eat in the boat house. In the winter the boardwalks along the pond are gorgeous to walk on with the snow.
- Wheelright Park in Cohasset – we used to go there a lot when the boys were little. There was a place we always told them the Gruffalo lived in there, it was a favorite childhood book of their’s.
- Hatch Lot in Norwell
- Wampatuck – we love riding our bikes in here especially the entrance by the train station in Cohasset.
Are you local? Where do you love to walk. We’d love to learn about more trails.

Hi Danielle,
I loved this early morning walk!
We are expecting 3 days of subzero temps here in Wi. this weekend, so I will have to get out today and tomorrow before the cold snap.
Thank you,
Carol
Hi Carol, Brrr!!!! It was pretty cold here today and it’s supposed to be extremely cold next week but it is so lovely and refreshing when winter weather is nice enough to walk, hike, and play outdoors. I’m actually hoping we get enough snow to go sledding this year! Thanks for stopping by and stay warm. Danielle xx
Hi Danielle, There is nothing like bundling up and going for a walk in the snow. I live in the northern mountains of Arizona and YES! we get snow…but so far, none this year. Hoping so soon. When my son was 6 mos old we adopted a labrador mix dog. My son is a major dog lover even today. When we went over to friends homes he always asked first off, “so where is your dog!?” He didn’t know life without a dog. “Nellie” had a good long life till 16 yrs. Please say a prayer for my, Dan and… Read more »
Hi Josette, Yes, it is wonderful to be outside in the snow in winter. Aw, loved hearing this story about your son and his sweet lab! Nellie gives me hope for Poppy living a bit longer. I know it’s gonna be so hard when it’s time. Sending so many prayers for Dan and all the other firefighters. We have been watching the footage on TV and images on Instagram. We have many friends that live in those areas so I’m constantly checking on them. Truly so horrific. Sending so much love and peace to California. Danielle xx
It looks lovely! We will have to try that some day with Callie. We always try to avoid the woods other than winter due to ticks, but it’s been so cold that we ought to do it! 💕
Hi Denise, you and Callie would love this walk. Yes, I know what you mean about summer and ticks. We try to avoid heavily wooded areas in the summer with the dogs and prefer beach walks at that time. Looks like we’re in for a little snow storm. 🙂 Danielle xx
