A Seaside Table (Before & After)

Since school ended there have been many beach days.  We’ve enjoyed long, lazy summer days by the shore, sand between our toes and the cool, salt breeze tousling our hair. Hours spent searching for crabs, sea glass and driftwood…

The seaside (as with most of my decorating) was my inspiration for this table:

After

This table wasn’t always looking so whimsical and carefree.  It was very brown when I found it:

See what I mean?  Very brown.  I first attempted the table in Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in French Linen with the details in Old White and Louis Blue.  I love all of these colors but just wasn’t happy with the result:

1st Attempt – Wedgwood Side Table

I felt like something was missing.  So it sat for quite awhile and got moved along with all of our stuff to the new home.  With sea glass colors and the thoughts of mermaids and sirens floating around in my head, I thought this custom Annie Sloan Chalk Paint color was perfect.  It is Florence mixed with Pure White.

After two coats of clear wax, I applied a tinted wax (mixing together clear wax and Pure White) by brushing it on delicately and wiping off the excess.  I wanted to give the look of white wash or distressing that you see in beachy furniture.

You can see the tinted Pure White wax in this photo really nicely.  It just gives the table a little more depth, but still delicate just like the pearl the mermaid is holding:

What do you think? Is there a version you like best?  This seaside table is looking for a new home!

Love the finished result. The three colours on the first version look great together, but somehow I think the second version is better.

The table turned out great. I like both versions, but I think the turqoise is perfect for a small pop of color. Thank you for sharing it and your tips for using Annie Sloan chalk paint at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great week!

I love the color! We have been beach bums lately because of all the heat waves we have had. It’s nice the humidity is gone.
