A Vintage Vanity (Cozy Living in the Bedroom)
A vintage vanity adds hygge to a corner of our bedroom.
I especially find the need to refresh rooms after a long winter, perhaps it’s cabin fever. When we did our bedroom in September 2017, I placed a vintage chair here.
I loved how the chair looked in here but instead of sitting on the chair, I’d place a pair of jeans or a shirt, and before I knew it my pretty chair was covered in a pile of clothes that I was too lazy to put away. Do you guys have a chair that gets piled high in your bedroom at home? So, I rethought this corner of the room. I love shopping my home and moving furniture around to make spaces feel new.
Using every inch of space is a hygge concept and thought it would be perfect to share in our March installment of the cozy living series hosted by my friend Jennifer. You can see all previous posts here.

So much light floods into our bedroom, especially in the afternoon hours, that it’s lovely to be in here at those times.
Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted a vanity to do my make up. Well, now this is the perfect spot.
I utilized a shell mirror we already had hanging in our bedroom.
The mirror was a gift from my mom on our first trip to Brimfield.
The shells incorporate lovely colors and patterns of the sea.
The vintage vanity I found at an old estate sale probably 7 years ago now. I originally painted it a gray color but thought a coat of white would be better now that our room is a creamy white. I gave the piece a good sanding and cleaned it with mineral spirits to remove the wax top coat. I painted it with two coats of Fusion Mineral Paint’s Raw Silk.
I distressed the high points and detailing so that some of the Paris Gray Chalk Paint showed through. I love how this piece now has a “found” quality about it.
I’m still on the hunt for a little stool or seat to go here but for now I’ve placed a basket underneath.
On the top of the vanity I layered some meaningful pieces along with my every day make up.
My favorite perfume, a vintage marmalade jar filled with makeup brushes, and bracelets the color of the sea.
Aren’t the colors pretty?
This art deco make up tin belonged to my grandmother. She gave it to me when I was very little. I loved the dancing man and woman on it. Every time I look at it I think of her. She always used to call me, “dolly”. How I miss her warm eyes and embrace.
My friend Rachel told me about this eye shadow palette and I love it!
I corralled all my make up in a wooden bowl that looks old but is actually from Target. It blends really nicely with my collection of baskets (two are vintage and one is from Target).
The pretty pouch above is from my society6 shop.
It’s really amazing what a little paint can do to an old piece. If you’d like more painted furniture tips you can check out my book.

I am sit to g here laughing ! Bedroom Chairs even with well intentions are notorious! I am your friend from RI wintering in FL and we have 1 chair in each house! Enjoy your weekend.
Ha! Ha! Time to retire that clothes horse chair I thought. I’m jealous of your FL local right now, we’re getting a snow storm here!
I love how pretty they made some of the older pieces and this is one. Love my chair in my bedroom what would i do with out it, have to put my folded clothes up and wouldn’t have anywhere to put my junk, lol!
I agree. Pretty vintages pieces had such lovely details and flourishes. I’m glad I’m not alone with placing items on my chair. Ha! Ha!
I’m guessing the original chair won’t fit because of the arms? Is it a tight space? I think if you can fit it, it would look good just placed at an angle.
The french chair is just too big for the space now that the table is there, but it was a good thought. Thank you xx
What a lovely little spot to start your day! Absolutely adore that mirror!!!
Isn’t that shell mirror lovely? I love collecting shells when we visit the beach but we don’t some of these shells at our beaches. LOVE all the colors and shapes.
Love the vanity Danielle, but the deco art makeup tin captured my heart! 🙂 What a wonderful keepsake from your grandma. The room is lovely and your floors are gorgeous!
It’s beautiful, Danielle! Your grandmothers art decor tin had my eyes right away, so pretty. I also love that you’re using a wooden bowl to hold make-up. I love your beautiful bedroom!
The vanity is perfect and that mirror reminds me of my Gram in Florida she’s made several of those over the years. Maybe that’s why I don’t have a chair in my bedroom; hubby would just load it with clothes. LOL
