Across the Pond (Part 2): Castles!

When you think of England, what do you think of?

Lords?  Ladies?

Kings and Queens?

Well, you get my drift.  We think of all of that and castles.  A trip to England would not be complete without a visit to one or two.

A few days ago we toured the lovely Dunster Castle. The castle has existed on this site since Norman times, with a very turbulent history.  I took many pictures of mirrors and rooms in the hopes we’d catch a glimpse of the ghost that haunts King Charles’ bedroom.

The home had been turned into a country estate by the Luttrell family who lived there for 600 years.  Think Downton Abbey!

Would you like to step inside?

Isn’t this gold leaf and color stunning?  It reminds me of Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue:

I could easily spend many hours in this library.  Can’t you picture curling up with a good book and a glass of wine infront of a crackling fire?

This is the view on the ceiling in that same room:

Yes, I could spend many hours in there!

I also loved the tile floor in the conservatory.

The subtropical gardens were gorgeous and the views spectacular.   We spent much time out in the sun enjoying ice cream, lovely flavors like lemon curd, rhubarb and ginger and Belgian chocolate, and this wonderful scenery:

We could see across the Bristol Channel to Wales.

We also strolled into the medieval village of Dunster.

The village reflected 1,000 years of architecture – Medieval, Tudor and Georgian.

I loved this sign.  I know it is for the toilets, but loved the color and chippy goodness:

Isn’t this lovely?

We didn’t see any ghosts, but saw many other amazing sights.  Can’t wait to share more of our trip with you!

Oh yes! Great day out! I am glad to see that I am not the only one who takes pictures of floors and ceilings when I am traveling! Dunster looks like a cute little town – as are so many English villages. Looking forward to part three of your adventure.

Doesn’t England look so pretty in the sunshine – I wish the weather was like this always.
The castle is amazing, love all the stunning plasterwork, and those tiles.
