Autumn Watercolor Place Cards and Tablescape Ideas
Autumn is a great time to entertain outdoors, especially if September brings an Indian Summer. Today I’m sharing autumn watercolor place cards and tablescape ideas.
My good friend Krista over at The Happy Housie is hosting the Seasonal Simplicity Hop on Tuesdays each week. The hop is kicking off today with DIY and Craft ideas (be sure to visit all of the blogs at the end of the post).

I find watercolor very relaxing and I’ve been playing around with a few Skillshare classes while the kids are home this summer. I learned about Gouache in one of the classes and thought it would be fun to create some watercolor place card free printables for you.
Painting Watercolor Place Cards
I invested in some new brushes, this enamel tray and a set of gouache.
Gouache is a highly pigmented watercolor paint and is so much fun to use. I actually got a bit carried away.
To start I used Canson watercolor paper and used some washi tape, I got at Target, to mark of a blank area, but you can use artist tape or painter’s tape if you want to try this at home. I just had this on my desk.
I sketched out a few drawings – leaves, sunflowers, eucalyptus and something a little more abstract.
I had so much fun mixing all the different colors in my tray.
I was so happy sitting up and my desk creating for you guys!
I created 4 designs (scroll below to download one or all of them), but first I want to give you some tablescape ideas.
Fall Tablescape Ideas
I thought it would be fun to show you two different looks. I used the same plates and cutlery but switched out the napkins, flowers, glasses and place cards. All the items are affordable and you can probably even shop your home.
Abstract Coastal Tablescape
This one is for a true Indian Summer day. Enjoy the heat by the pool or on your outdoor patio.
The olive plant is a symbol of friendship. I found this one at the supermarket. The planter was 70% off at Michael’s.
I always think of coastal style as more streamlined and laid back. This tablescape is very simple. Cut water glasses from Ikea, linen napkins and a fun oyster tray from my Society6 shop.
The abstract watercolor place cards set a fun and playful mood. You can see it here:
Perfect for a day by the pool.
Jewel Toned Fall Tablscape
This tablescape focuses on the jewel tones which is on trend for fall this year. Deep hues like rich purples and plums, vibrant yellows and the shimmer of gold.
I was inspired by my son’s sunflowers which you can see in the background and that is what I based my watercolor sunflowers on. We’ve seen so many butterflies, moths, and bees visiting his plant this year.
The vibrant bouquet on the table was $5 from Whole Foods and I had every intention of putting them in these rose wine bottles. I’ve been saving the bottles for branches but I couldn’t get the glass stoppers out. So I just placed them on the table as decor instead. The table runner is actually a tea towel from Trader Joe’s I thought the blue played off nicely with the yellows on the table.
I found the linen napkins up in Canada a few years ago and the hobnail glasses are from two years ago. I think they’re so pretty. The cutlery is from Target.
You can see the place card here:
I adore artichokes and I bought these to grill but thought they looked so pretty and festive placed on the table. I’ll share the grilled artichoke recipe later this week.
I hope this gave you a few ideas for using these placecards.
Watercolor Place Card Free Printables
Below are the four designs I created for you! Simply click here to download them. I added text in photoshop and created the card size when printing – I selected print 4 up. You can even add a saying like “Thankful” or “Love” or “Blessed” to customize. These would also be pretty for notecards or labels.
These printables are for your own personal use. I’m happy for you to share them with family and friends but please don’t sell them.
