There are some things that just stick with you. Like the above passage. I love how the sign is distressed, I love how it almost looks like chalk on a dusty chalk board. But most of all, I love the words, for this is how I feel about my own kids.
Each and every day, John and Conor can push my buttons (as many kids know how to do this to their parents) and each and every day they say that right something that melts my heart. At times, I’m struck by them saying something like their dad (English accent and all) or gesturing like me.
Out for breakfast in the harbor
These two very special boys are so much of me and I am so much of them. My whole life would be so different without them and each day I know I am so very, very lucky to be blessed with two loving souls who call me “Mommy”.
At times, I see me in them:
When they like to put on shows or in John’s thick brown hair and dark eyes:

And at times very much like their Daddy:
Conor helping Daddy mow the lawn
Conor goes crazy if Luke mows the lawn without him! Both boys have his long, luscious eye lashes, too.
Sometimes, I’m awe-struck by their creativity. The other night John, who’s 5, was looking at this old board book. Here is the photo he was looking at:
Less than five minutes later he drew this (the pink slashes was Conor ‘helping’):
They both have such big dreams. Creativity bubbles out of them and they so enjoy our life together. Their beautiful eyes, their belly laughs and exuberance are my inspiration. They truly are, “the beat of my heart, the pulse in my veins and the energy in my soul.”
