Each time I read this, tears come to my eyes. Good friends, and I mean, really really good friends are so hard to find. The type of friend who knows exactly what your thinking by the look in your eye. Or who, like you, can eat the whole bag of twizzlers. If you met at school you may have drooled over the older guys, wore too much make up freshman year and tried to pluck each other’s eye brows. A best friend is the type of person you can tell anything to and they won’t judge you or tell another friend what you confided in them. This is probably why so many best friends are very rare.
Well, I hadn’t seen my best friend from middle school in fourteen years and we met up on Monday. It was one of the best lunches I ever had. When we embraced it was like no time had passed and our conversation picked up where the last one left off. Our sons played together while we caught up over 14 years of stuff. We laughed at things we used to do when in high school, but also shared hard things we have gone through since seeing each other last. We talked about how our husbands whisked us off our feet. Our weddings. Our kids.
I’m so sad that I’ve missed some parts of her life and I’m sure she feels the same way, but I’m so very happy to have her back in my life. If you have that best friend hang on to them because they are so hard to find. If you’ve lost touch, I know you’ll always be forever friends.
Danielle, Beautiful post! A true best friend is indeed a rare thing. So nice you were able to get back in touch with one of yours. Have a wonderful day!
Yes, I feel very lucky!
Danielle,
Reading this just made me cry…I’ve had a smile on my face and a spring in my step all week because of you. I feel so blessed to have you back in my life.
xo
I’m feeling exactly the same way. Feel so blessed to have you back in my life.
There is something so comforting about someone who ‘knew you when’. There is no need to pretend to be what you are not or that everything in your life is honey and roses. I’m glad you reconnected with your friend! ~ Maureen
It’s a great friendship when 14 years just disappear and you get on as well as you always did.
I still regularly see my oldest friend, that I met at playschool when I was 5 !
Lovely post Danielle x
I don’t know where we’d be without special friends in our lives!
