Chipped

I don’t know about you but I love chipped paint.  You know, really flaking off.  I love what time and the elements can do to paint.  There is something about that worn exterior that is so comforting.

Chipped Doors at Holly Hill Farm

John (my 6 year old) has been doing camp this week at Holly Hill Farm.  We love time spent on the farm and the surrounding land.  In a way, it is like stepping back into the past.  You may remember, I wrote about Holly Hill before.

There is just something about it up on the hill.  I don’t know if it is the dappled light, the chipped paint or the lovely animals, but there is something magical about Holly Hill.

When we drop John off to spend some time with his friends and the animals, Conor and I go visiting.  First stop is always the chickens to feed them grass and weeds.  On this trip, we were lucky enough to see some chicks.  They were so tiny.  Meeting them really made our day.

Conor also LOVES the tractors.

They’re old and beat up and have so many stories to tell.

We don’t go on them, but discuss what they do on the farm.

I particularly love this one:

Tractor

I mean look at that chipped paint. Isn’t amazing how hard we try to get this look on furniture?

Chippy Paint

I don’t think Conor has a favorite tractor.  He loves them all:

Conor and the tractors
I may be slightly obsessed with chalk paint (okay, I am obessessed with chalk paint), but doesn’t this color on the wheel barrel look like ASCP Provence?
We’re looking forward to heading back to the farm again this morning!  If you’re local I highly recommend their programs, farm stand or just stopping by to visit the animals and walk in the woods.

Looks like a great place! And I love the name. Funny, I too live on a hill overlooking the river valley.

Love your post and your blog. Our boys have enjoyed Holly Hill Farm for many years and in many ways…on family hikes, as campers, on field trips and as visiting Cub Scout. They’ve also helped to plant and care for their school garden, and annually tend to our own backyard garden, which is always full of seedlings from the farm. It is truly a gem on the South Shore. Wishing you and your family many more years enjoying the Farm.

Lori, thanks so much for your lovely comments. Holly Hill is the best. Both my boys love it. Such a magical place! Today we enjoyed a salad party to celebrate John’s last day of camp. I think he’s sad camp is over…
