Christmas in July
Have you started planning for Christmas yet? I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas in July post so you can save some ideas for later on!
Don’t worry I’m not currently celebrating Christmas in July! Although, my boys do think it’s weird when I decorate ahead of time for the blog. I’ve never decorated the house for Christmas in summer. Well, not yet anyway. I thought it would be fun to take a little stroll don’t memory lane and give you some fun and affordable ways to celebrate the holidays this year.
12 Ideas for Christmas in July
It’s currently high 80s here in Scituate so I can’t even comprehend snow, but let’s think about cozy ideas for winter. Simply click the title to be taken to the tutorial / post / recipe.
1. Decorating with Dried Orange Slices
Last year was the first time we tried this sweet little craft. We dried orange slices and made little garlands like this, but also tucked them into tablescapes and decorated plates with them. The orange slices will keep, too, but we decided to just make more next season.
2. Sparkling Cranberry Cocktails
These cocktails are as delicious as they are pretty. Perfect for Christmas Eve or even a New Year’s Celebration at home with a Chinese takeaway.
3. Festive Gingerbread House Cakes
These are delicious and look so pretty on a table. I shared them two ways. One in an almost English woodland theme and one on a pretty white tablecloth. I think your family and friends will LOVE these!
4. Giant Pine Cones
I love using these giant oversized pine cones throughout our Christmas decor. They’re so simple but look great on bar carts, tablescapes, or on dressers. They make any surface more festive!
I also used them on a simple tablescape another year:
5. Homemade Eggnog
It may take some extra time but homemade eggnog tastes sooooo much better than store bought. Our friend Kate shared all her tips. You can spike this to make an adult cocktail, too.
6. Watercolor Gift Tag Free Printables
I had so much fun painting these little pine tree gift tags. They made wrapping gifts even more fun!
7. Hot Chocolate Bar (with Homemade Marshmallows)
What could be more cozy than a hot chocolate bar when it’s snowing outside? We always like to warm up after sledding or ice skating with hot chocolate. It’s even better with homemade marshmallows.
8. DIY Hand Poured Candles
These look lovely for winter home decor but also make such thoughtful gifts. We upcycled yogurt pots and used essential oils and soy wax.
9. Hang a Staircase Garland Lower
I always hang our garland higher up on the railing but I think I’m going to start hanging it lower. It makes it so much easier to navigate the stairs and also adds a pop of greenery lower down. I love mixing dried ornamental grasses in our garlands.
10. DIY Chippy Vintage Sled
Take an old sled and give it a little makeover with paint. It’s a wonderful traditional look to bring to your front steps.
11. Dreamy Snowball Cookies
We love to make these for Santa!
12. Christmas Lights at Night
Twinkling Christmas lights are just so magical. Last year was the first year we added them to our bushes and window boxes. Pure magic!
I’m not ready to say good bye to summer just yet, but hope this gave you some ideas for your home in December and January. Be sure to pin this to save this post!
The fairy lights would.be beautiful.over/ around your.pool.
We have them around.the ceiling.(use solar) of our veranda and leave them up year round.
We have added a pine tree to a whiskey barrel to string lights on our brick patio. as well.
When the tree out grows the barrel we added to our landscape and replant a smaller one to the barrel. What a lovely site to behold after dark! Give II a try!!!
Hi Ethel, we do have some string lights out by the pool but don’t have any fairy lights. I agree – it would be beautiful. I’d love to see a photo of your lights. Your pine trees in whiskey barrels sound lovely, too. Thanks for the Christmas ideas. xx
