Christmas Mantel & Tree 2013

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care…

in hopes that St. Nicholas would soon be there.  My little boys have been asking each morning if it is Christmas.  Conor, seeing the huge huge snow flakes falling outside our window, exclaimed, “See, Mom, I told you it was Christmas!”

If the mantel is anything to go by we’re almost there!  Don’t you think this mantel has a bit of a vintage 1950s vibe?  I fell in love with those antique childrens’ skis when I saw them at Bent Nail Farm Antiques.  They are the most lovely distressed yellow.

The rosemary tree a Lowe’s find and it got a vintage look with some burlap and twine that I already had.

The fresh holly and greenery was from my friend, MaryAnn’s, yard.  Thanks, MaryAnn! x

Oh, and how fabulous is this little truck.  It has surf boards in the back so I have a feeling it will go up to Conor’s room after Christmas.

My German Glitter Glass banner spelling “Merry”.  We are merry, very and so excited for Christmas to arrive.

I know, I know.  The book pages are still up there.  The mirror is still behind them.  I tried.  I really did try to get it down, but the mirror isn’t just screwed.  We think it might be glued up there, too.  Hmmmm. Looks like 7 years of bad luck when we smash it after Christmas….  Any thoughts?!?

And that is how the mantel is looking:

We also decorated the tree this weekend.  Oh, there is something so special about a real live tree, don’t you think?  Perhaps, it is the smell, that woodsy, pine scent, or maybe it is the needles falling everywhere but we were so excited to pick our’s out.

We got our tree at the Knights of Columbus, where all sales benefit the boy scouts.  There were so many to choose from.  We got so confused.

Conor was so excited to help decorate the tree –

I let the boys go crazy decorating.  They hung bells, our handmade model magic ornaments we did a few years back and some german glitter glass stars.  It may not be perfect, or how I would have done it, but I love it.

A child’s tree.  I love sitting and looking at the fairy lights and all our ornaments.

So many wonderful memories.  How have you been decorating for Christmas?

I like the book pages — even if they are hiding an ugly mirror 🙂 Your “Merry” banner is so sweet hung in front of it!

Danielle,
Oh so pretty and your little one saying see mom it’s Christmas. Out of the mouths of babes. Too adorable.

I just love your mantle, Danielle, it is really lovely. The skis are precious, like your boys! As far as the mirror goes, we had to break one during construction, too. We simply decided that since it was done on purpose and in the name of renovation, it wasn’t bad luck at all! 😉

Thank you, Kim. I love my little guys and also quite smitten with my vintage finds. Did you put anything on the mirror before breaking it.
