Christmas Watercolors
I think by now you all know how much I LOVE watercolors! Sitting with my paints, a cup of tea or coffee, and a pretty candle is my favorite way to relax. Saying that, I thought it would be fun to share some gift-able Christmas watercolors.
Some of these are brand new ideas while others are from the archives.
A little bit of fun for everyone!

Christmas Watercolors
Watercolor Ornaments
I actually made these this year and have sold lots at local markets. I will have some available next week December 14th at a Sip & Shop at BirchBarn from 4-8pm.
I painted some with winter scenes (as seen above) and some with beach and coastal scenes.
What You Need To Make Watercolor Ornaments
- Watercolor paints and brush
- Mixed media paper
- Glass ornament discs, I used these
- Ribbon, I used satin ribbon
This took me some time to figure out. I’ve always wanted to paint ornaments but couldn’t figure out how to do it with watercolor. For this you will need some patience.
Step 1 – I trace a circle on the paper smaller than the ornament shape. I actually trace a lid from a jar. Then I find the middle and make a top to the ornament.
Step 2 – I paint each scene in the circle. Mixed Media paper works the best but don’t make it too watery. It can’t take as much water as watercolor paper.
Step 3 – Once dry cut out your painted ornament and roll the paper carefully.
Step 4 – Slot the painted scene inside and carefully unroll. I use a pen or paint brush to roll it out. Put the lid back on ornament and tie ribbon to top.
Here’s a peek at the coastal ones:
I actually shared a few reels on Instagram if you want to see more – winter scene ornaments and beach scene ornaments.
Watercolor Bookmarks
I love painting these sweet little bookmarks. I simply cut watercolor paper into strips and paint wintery scenes. You can really paint anything at all you’d like. I also like painting the ocean, of course. See the full watercolor bookmark tutorial with video.
I also sell these at pop ups and markets. People enjoy popping them into books they’re giving to family and friends.
Snowy Birch Trees
This is a great beginner project and you can paint either large size ones to frame and gift or paint small versions as gift tags. In this snowy birch tree tutorial I also have a video.
Watercolor Place Cards
Only starting out with watercolor? This is is super fun. Simply wash a color over some ripped paper and write or trace names over the watercolor wash. It’s so simple. You can see a reel I did of it here.
Mini Watercolor Seascapes
This is also a fun one and I have a full tutorial and video for learning how to make mini watercolor seascapes. This is so fun and fool-proof. Such a fun way to relax.
I love framing these in floating frames so you can see the deckled edge.
Watercolor Gift Tags
I actually created these as a free printable. You can print them on stick on labels, but they’re quite fun to paint free hand too if you want to make your own watercolor labels.

Hi Josette, I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long to reply to this comment. I’m glad you enjoyed these ideas! Summer now seems so far off with these dreary wet and gray days, but I’m painting spring things right now xx
