Classic Ballet Flats

I’m not a fashion blogger but I was intrigued when Tieks reached out wondering if I wanted to try their ballet flats. Perhaps, I’ve been living under a rock but I didn’t know about them.

I did a bit of research and learned that they are Oprah’s favorite ballet flat and she wore them exclusively for the last year of filming for the Oprah Show. I checked out that the site and couldn’t believe the varieties of choices they offered. Tieks makes ballet flats in patent leather, matte leather, and fabric. It got me thinking that, yes, I would like to try them as I had been longing for a nice pair of comfortable ballet flats.

Stylish and Comfortable Flats

According to Tieks’ site they are stylish, durable, comfortable, and foldable. In fact, my Tieks came folded in the cutest little box.

The idea is you can wear high heels and have your Tieks folded up in a little bag and you can swap shoes when your feet start hurting. That’s genius!

They arrived in a pretty gift box with a bow and came folded in half.

What I LOVE About Them

  • The soft full grain leather
  • I opted for the matte black and love how classic it is. They come in so many colors so you could definitely pair your shoes with a special outfit.
  • These shoes, while expensive, are so well-made. The stitching, the leather. It takes 3 days and over 150 steps to make these shoes.
  • Many ballet flats are slippery on the sole. The sole of these shoes have a skid proof rubber.
  • Flexibility – I took ballet when I was young and these shoes feel like my ballet shoes with the split-sole.
  • The aqua sole – you know how much I love blue!

Breaking In Period

I found that it took a bit of time to beak my Tieks in. I’d wear them around the house a bit here and there. I’m a size 5.5 US and they don’t do half sizes. I got the size 6 and it was pretty snug. I do have a bunion on one foot (my left) and that took extra time to break in because they were really tight around that area. Don’t the look so cute with our new rug?

Over time the beautiful Italian leather softens and moulds to your feet. I’ve found that to be the case but it’s taken about a month for me to break them in. So I think that’s been one con for me but I think it’s because I don’t have “normal” feet.

The Black Ballet Flat

I opted for the matte black ballet flat in full grain leather because I thought it was classic and thought I could wear it in all seasons. I love how they look with jeans and cashmere sweaters, but they also look fantastic with cropped black trousers or dresses.

More Styles I Like

I thought I’d share a few more styles that I look in case you’re interested in getting yourself a pair.

Leopard Flat | Paradise Blue Flat | Silver Lake Fabric Flat | Taupe Flat

I thought the Paradise Blue and Silver Lake would be fun for summer and the taupe is so versatile it could be worn year-round. I was debating between the black and the taupe for myself, but I think I might order the taupe for summer.

A Versatile Ballet Flat

I love the amount of cushion in the footbed. Usually ballet flats aren’t very supportive and these are. I think you’ll love them! I’d love to hear if you own a pair! They are perfect for going out or going for a walk to the lighthouse.
