Classic White New England Kitchen in Autumn
A sprinkle of flowers and dried grasses add to the fall feeling in our classic white New England kitchen in autumn.
Last week I gave you a peek of our kitchen as part of my nature inspired fall home tour. You guys sent me so many questions about this space that I thought I should write a more in depth post.

As many of you know, we live in an historic home. A Dutch colonial in Scituate Harbor that was built in 1927. I absolutely adore my white cabinets and built ins in here. The layout of our kitchen is a little bit funny with so many doorways and not many windows. Our fridge is actually out in the back hallway. So one day we plan on renovating this space whilst still maintaining the charm.
The china cabinet you see above was actually in the dining room as part of a set of twin cabinets and a previous owner moved it in here. Isn’t is so pretty? I love the original crystal knobs. A few years ago I painted the interior of the cabinet dark so my collection of white dishes would “pop” inside.
This sweet piece provides so much storage. Inside are vintage ironstone pieces mixed in with Ikea plates and target finds. I love serving food on white plates.
Those are real butterflies that have been framed. They’re vintage and I got them at a friend’s yard sale.
The walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl. The cabinets and trim are White Dove in Satin.
Here’s a view from the front hall doorway to the sink. This is our only window in the kitchen. We dream of making this a wall of windows and moving the sink to a center island.
Can you believe that tile is actually stick on? I did it a few years ago, you can see the tutorial here and how it’s holding up here. It really looks like the real thing and it only took us an afternoon to do.
This sweet mini mum says fall simply. It was a gift from my neighbor.
Usually in the fall we go apple picking but haven’t gone this year.
I filled an enamel wash basin with a variety of apples. We all love to snack on them.
Above is the view from our dining room. We’ve had these sweet stools since we’ve moved in 7 years ago and I love how timeless they are (and indestructible with growing kids).
Last spring we swapped out the hardware and hinges and love the warmth the brass adds.
We adore cooking! My kids and husband all love to cook and bake. My husband started baking bread back in March while our youngest loves doing pizza and a bunch of other meals. I’ve stacked the chopping boards against the wall for easy access. The SMEG toaster was gift to my hubby a few years back and makes perfectly toasted English muffins and crumpets.
That photo of John as a pirate is one of my favorites. I took it right before he turned two. It was a warm January day and he wanted to wear his pirate hat to the beach 😉
That’s a floor cloth on the floor that I moved from our upstairs bathroom. I think painting the floors white in here might make it feel bigger and brighter, but with two kids and two dogs I worry of the time and effort it will take to maintain a white floor in the kitchen. I think we’ll just wait until we do the kitchen over. Part of me could see herringbone brick, tile that looks like wood, or some form of slate in here, eventually.
One of my favorite pieces in our kitchen is this carved fish. I found it at a consignment store, the same day I found the enamel wash basin.
In the above photo you can see our dining room decorated for fall.
I’ve added simple candles and fall flowers to make it feel more like fall in here.
A mix of hydrangeas from the garden and cockscomb seed from WholeFoods.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit more of our kitchen decorated for fall. Let me know if you have any questions. I’m including a full source list below, as well. Have you started decorating for fall?

Hi Dina, Thank you for your kind words about our kitchen. I feel like I don’t share it as often as some other rooms because there’s still so much I want to do with this space but don’t have the money to do it yet. Glad I could help give you some ideas 😉 xx
Your kitchen is so cozy and charming. Love the peninsula with those barstools. And those built in cupboards are something I would love in a kitchen.
Pat
Thank you, Pat. Hidden under the peninsula is actually a radiator. So it’s nice and toasty in the winter 😉
