Coastal Bathroom Makeover
Our Coastal Bathroom Makeover uses accents of navy, brass, and white to create a crisp, clean, oasis by the sea.
I’m beyond excited to share our coastal bathroom makeover with you today! Before I do I need to say a few thank you’s to friends who have helped me with this makeover.

Okay, so a recap if you missed last week’s inspiration post. The bathroom was looking like this:
Here’s my inspiration:
So many of you left really lovely comments on my design ideas. I really appreciate your opinions and advice. It really makes my day when you comment.
Here’s how our bathroom looks now:
As you know this is our ONLY full bathroom. We share it with our boys and I was craving some coastal style. I love all white but I was ready to make a statement!
Adding Navy Blue
The minute I saw the Oxford Navy Chalk Paint® by Annie Sloan. I knew our bathroom vanity needed to be that color. Swoon. I called my friend Nancy a the Sea Rose Cottage immediately! Navy blue makes my heart happy and this is the first real navy paint I’ve LOVED.
I’ve never been a huge fan of the ornate detailing on this vanity but we can’t afford to completely gut the bathroom. I think the navy makes these very fancy details disappear or look a bit more modern and classy.
I ended applying three coats of Oxford Navy and then sealed it with the clear wax. I didn’t buff as I wanted a matte finish.
Accents of navy blue can also be seen on the floor.
Adding a Floor Cloth
On the floor is an amazing Vintage Vinyls Floorcloth.
I went with the Skyros pattern. I love the crossed and thought they gave a modern look. It also draws attention away from the floor tile which I don’t love.
You may remember I used a floorcloth in our front hallway, too. I love them because they’re durable and can be wiped clean if anything spills on them. You guy all know how boys can be with tooth paste in the bathroom…. I also love that they are customizable. This is an 8′ x 3′. It also makes are small bathroom look bigger.
Brass Hardware
Next up selecting hardware! You all know how much I love D. Lawless. They have a great selection at unbelievable prices. I’ve used their hardware on countless furniture makeovers but also in our kitchen and pool house. My hesitation with updating the hardware before was the matching hinges. Guess, what D. Lawless also has butt hinges in every shape imaginable and finish.
I decided to use the same knobs throughout the bathroom. I went with the Octo Knob in soft brass. The butt hinges are regular brass but you can’t notice the difference in finish.
The knobs look amazing against light and dark painted surfaces.
I adore the shape, too!
On the linen cupboard I ended this pull.
They look perfect and so classy!
Adding Coastal Elements
I already had the teak bench but this handmade bench has a coastal feel.
A jar filled with beach treasures – collected when I was little –
A pretty tasseled shower curtain sets the right mood:
Plush facecloths and towels. I love using white as it always looks clean and fresh. I also love that I can bleach it.
A pretty reed diffuser. I love the fragrance of this so much! I went with a fragrance called “seaglass”.
Woven baskets for extra towel storage.
Lovely soap from France. I found these bars at Marshall’s.
I love keeping extra soaps in the bottom drawer with my son’s shaving stuff.
I also love using eucalyptus. My favorite spot to find it is Trader Joe’s. I think they have it for $2.99 and I buy all the different varieties – seeded, silver dollar, etc.
It always looks so pretty, smells amazing, and lasts for weeks.
I placed it in a vintage Chinese pot I found antiquing a few years ago.
Oh, one other feature I love about our bathroom but it isn’t new. Is this chrome door knob. The other knobs in our home are crystal but this is the only chrome one. I think it’s so pretty.
I love that it has a tiny bit of aqua paint on it.
Well, that’s the bathroom makeover. Small changes but a big impact.
I took these photos when the boys were at school and that night Conor said to me, “Mommy, I feel like our bathroom now looks like a hotel in California.” This was music to my ears.
I’m delighted we can all enjoy this newly improved space and feel a calmness in here.

Wow—-this is absolutely gorgeous! I agree with your son—like a top-notch hotel bathroom! Love how the navy paint modernized the vanity! Everything is spot-on! One of my favorite makeovers!!
Carol, your comments made my week! Thank you so much for your kind words. It really is amazing to me how a few small changes made our bathroom feel fresh and relaxing!
I actually like your vanity cabinet now that you have painted it because it looks like a piece of good heavy furniture that has been converted into a vanity. Your color scheme is the same as I did my husband’s den/office. I did not know that ASCP now comes in a dark Navy. I love that paint, so I will have to find something to paint color! When I did the room for the hubby, I used Indigo by Valspar and made it into chalky paint. His yucky old cabinets and the coffee table look quite good now that I… Read more »
Hi Ellen, You’re so right! It does make it look like a good piece of heavy furniture now. Your hubby’s office sounds AMAZING! You’ll have to send me a photo so I can see it. I LOVE brass with dark, moody tones. Thank you for your kind words about our bathroom makeover. xx
Blue and white makes my heart sing and those brass knobs adds just the right touch of elegance. A job well done.
Teresa, I feel the same way about blue and white. Seeing those colors together makes my heart happy 😉 Thank you xx
It looks fab! I love the navy but especially love the new hardware and that it works so well on the other white cabinets too. That tassel fringed shower curtain is so pretty too!
Thanks, Barbara! The new hardware is fab and so happy I splurged on the shower curtain. It makes such a statement. Thanks for stopping by.
It really looks nice, painting that cabinet really gave the bathroom a whole new look, love all the details you chose. You will certainly enjoy this space now.
Thank you, Marlene, I think the bathroom looks bigger with the darker vanity. We’re loving this space now!
Danielle, that is the prettiest Navy Blue. I have to find something i can paint now. Your bathroom looks very calming. Darker colors are calming. The bathroom is perfect. One thing though. Why did you use wax instead of a top coat? Aren’t you scared of water marks?
Great makeover!
Absolutely stunning! That navy is perfect and the brass accent from the pulls and hinges makes it so classic and calming. Thank you for sharing!
I love it! I just painted my master bath vanity Oxford Navy. Love the new look. I had painted the wall behind the vanity light blue so changing it back to white is next on my to-do list. I needed the pop of color when the vanity was light gray but the navy will look fantastic with all white walls.
Love the color and everything you’ve done, beautiful! I chuckled when you mentioned your sons shaving stuff, what the heck, how do they grow up so fast! 🙂
It turned out so beautifully, danielle! LOVE the color of the vanity, and I love the rug and shower curtain with it!
Very Pretty!
Very Pretty!!!
Oh, I say you nailed it. I too love the navy!
Thank you, Elaine! We painted the vanity 2 years ago and I’m happy to report it still looks just as nice! xx
