Coastal Beds I’m Loving Right Now
We’re currently doing our new bedroom over and have been trying to decide on a new bed. I thought I’d share some coastal beds I’m loving right now.
As many of you know, we swapped bedrooms with our kids. Well, actually we swapped every single room in our upstairs. You can read more about that here. Now that the dust has settled, I’m starting to think about decorating our new bedroom.
This was how the room looked when the boys shared it:
We currently have our bed on the far wall (where the American flag was). By placing the bed there it gives us a spacious bedroom. I think the room is 20 x 18. We currently have a mattress and box spring but in our previous bedroom didn’t have a headboard as it wasn’t a large room. You can see how our previous room looked here:
For our new bigger bedroom, I want to make the far wall (where the bed is) the focal point and I think we need to add a headboard or bed. I’m also thinking about changing out our bedside tables and we’ll need a new chandelier or ceiling light. I’m hoping to keep our bureaus. Here’s what they look like:
Design Ideas for the New Bedroom
I’d like our new bedroom to feel airy and coastal. It’s a large room with white walls – we painted in Benjamin Moore’s Simply White. It has dark woodwork and trim so find it hard to go too modern with our furnishings.
I’m wondering about painting that one wall a different color for a focal wall or adding some kind of paper. We have texture on the walls which will make paper harder to adhere.
I also love bedrooms to feel restful and peaceful. Whilst looking at beds, I keep finding myself drawn to woven and natural materials in muted woods or whites.

Coastal Beds I’m Loving Right Now
Rattan
Rattan is derived from an Old World climbing palm and gives an island or coastal feel to any room. The beds below come in many different styles, weaves and colors in varying different price points.
This bed is based on a 1940s french design and reproduced by Serena & Lily. I have feeling it would be too feminine for my husband, but I think it’s very pretty.
This woven rattan headboard has a very rustic feel. It’s handmade in in Indonesia and is actually extremely affordable.
The slight curve of the headboard adds an elegant touch. This is exclusive to Crate & Barrel. I have a weakness for gray and think this might make a statement in our bedroom.
The mahogany frame is wrapped in honey colored rattan. Brass caps on each leg add a hint of glam.
Suzanne Kasler Southport Rattan Bed features features a mahogany frame with rattan wrapped around it. She designed this to look like a daybed she found at a Paris Flea Market. I really love this look along with the bedside tables but not sure Luke will go for it 😉 It’s currently on sale.
Rattan Cane
I really love the driftwood wood tones and woven rattan. This looks like an heirloom piece with a coastal feel.
Reimagined Louis XIV bed with an island feel. The white bed is clean and fresh but the caning adds a warmth to the piece.
It also comes as just the headboard:
Well, those are some of the beds I’ve been looking at. Do you have any of these or a bed or headboard you love? Which bed did you like the best? I’d love to hear!
I like the drift wood and the white one with the caning..The Suzanne Kasler Southport Rattan Bed looks awesome when seeing as a set. This is a very hard decission
It’s so hard! Even after everyone has weighed in here and on IG and FB, I’m still undecided….
I’m uber sensitive to smells jute rattan all of them. Those are all beautiful choices but I would be so nervous about the scent that that might emit. Just a nervous caution however I love them all!
Oh, wow! I didn’t even think of that, but that’s a great point!
Hi Danielle,
I’m not going to be of much help to you on choosing a bed out of the ones you like because,,,I like them all!
But,,,if I had make a choice ,I would choose, Suzanne Kasler Southport Rattan Bed.
Good Luck on your re-decorating, I am sure you will make the perfect choice.
Thanks for weighing in. I’m still undecided but so fun to have some spaces to rethink and redecorate. xx
Love the gray or the rattan, either one would really draw the eye to the bed as the focus in the room. I think they both have the coastal look without being Florida beachy, and the color contrast would be beautiful with the white walls and dark woodwork. And your light bedding would really pop.
Yes, I don’t want our bedroom to look like Florida or the tropics so want to be careful with which bed I pick.
You have a hard decision to make, i like all of them, but i really liked the driftwood bed, i think it is very lovely and would never age.
You know how I feel about driftwood 😉
I like the Sausalito one, the rattan gives it a beachy feel but the wood makes it not so trendy.
Yes, I think that one is timeless for sure.
Love the driftwood bed. Coloring is different not too light or dark. Think it would stand out against the white painted walls.
Thanks for your opinion, Debbie. Really appreciate it.
