Coastal Christmas Decorations in the Dining Room
Can you believe Christmas is in two weeks? I know many of you have decorated already but today I’m sharing a closer look at our dining room with all its coastal Christmas decorations.
I already gave you a glimpse of this room on Jennifer Rizzo’s Holiday Housewalk but many of you are asking for sources and colors etc.
Life has been and continues to be hectic. We’ve had some sickness in our family and our online shop has been very busy too. So, with this in mind, I decided to keep our holiday decor VERY simple.
We live right in Scituate Harbor and our dining room decor is completely inspired by our love for the ocean – you will see the colors of the sea and lots of beach treasures interspersed with greenery. I’m excited to share these coastal Christmas decor ideas!
Coastal Wreath
In the corner of the room is this coastal wreath created by my friend Cindy (Foraged Found and Flowers). It’s a simple boxwood wreath with the sweetest little fish.
Aren’t the colors dreamy? I usually have a mirror here so I simply just replaced it with the wreath.
On the shelf are some collected shells and a sea fan.
White Slipcovered Chairs
This isn’t really a Christmas tip but we have white slipcovered dining chairs in the dining room. These were originally from Ikea. They don’t sell these exact chairs anymore but are doing something similar. I believe white slipcovers instantly gives that lived-in, comfortable coastal look.
I do wash them often (with kids and dogs). Here are my tips for keeping white slipcovers bright white.
Shells – The More the Merrier
In this room we have an antique welsh dresser and it is one of my favorite pieces of furniture. For the holidays, I love adding in shells, Christmas ornaments and greenery.
The Welsh Dresser was a lucky Facebook Yard Sale find! I collect ironstone. I love how it looks but it’s also functional. I used it for serving.
I love filling ironstone bowls with ornaments. These are French Country Ornaments from Balsam Hill.
This greenery is faux and the sweet little birdhouse came from a lovely reader in Canada!
A Naked Christmas Tree
I love that romantic feeling of lots of greenery and shells.
I mentioned in the tour that I always wanted to do a naked tree in our home with just Christmas lights. This is a real balsam tree and I love how fragrant it is! It just seemed to beautiful to us to cover it with lots of ornaments.
A Few Tips to Care for Your Real Tree
(The local garden center gave us a few tips for caring for this beautiful real tree and I wanted to share them).
- Make a fresh cut on the stem of the tree so it can drink the water.
- Water your tree with warm water and add Prolong to it. Prolong is a Christmas tree preservative that keeps the tree looking greener and fresher for longer.
- We were told to water the tree three times a day and add prolong each time. Also, to make sure the water was warm or room temperature. If you water the tree with cold water it can make the sap harden and prevent the tree from drinking water.
- This tree stand is super – you can rotate the tree in it – and there’s plenty of room to add water. This is very similar to the tree stand we have.
I’ve been busy packing up orders and sending packages. You can see our holiday collection.
Shell Mirror
Speaking of shells I adore this shell mirror. My mom actually gave it to me years ago – we found it together at Brimfield.
I love the reflection of our little Christmas tree in it. We made that sweet little table and I created a faux marble top for it a few years ago. You will see collected antiques, shells and Christmas greenery on top.
The Color of the Sea
Would you believe I only paid $20 for this little armoire. It was in worse shape when I found it and I painted it in Miss Mustard Seeds Eulalie’s Sky. It’s a luscious color. I store all my entertaining essentials inside – candles, tea lights, runners, napkins etc.
Blue and white is one of my favorite color combinations, especially this color blue. On top of the dresser is two felted trees from Target (I’ve had them for years), an antique ironstone pitcher filled with evergreen, a antique mirror that used to hang at my family’s restaurant, brass candlesticks, and an antique trophy with faux lily of the valley.
I love mixing antiques and new and also mixing seasonal and timeless.
In a few days I’ll be sharing how I made the centerpiece for the table. It’s really easy, but for now I hope you enjoyed this post.

A tree without ornaments!!! That would be my kind of tree. I love the smell of balsam and occasionally buy a balsam wreath to hang inside my home just so I can have that great smell. I did not do much decorating this year as I have a new pup who is a larger breed and can stand on her hind legs and get into everything……but next year I like the idea of a tree with only lights. Your home is very inviting.
Hi Deb, the fragrance is amazing! Aw, your puppy sounds so sweet. I’d love to see a photo! Next year you’ll be able to do a bit more as the pup won’t be so interested in everything. Thank you for your kind words and wishing you a wonderful holiday Danielle xx
