Cozy Fall Living Room
Our living room is our “hang out” room and I have some fun ideas for making this room warm and inviting. Here’s our cozy fall living room.
It’s now that time of year when we move from being outside all the time to retreating inside to enjoy snuggling, games, and crackling fires. I took these photos on a lazy Sunday when Conor was watching the Lego Movie and Max perched on his favorite spot, on top of the couch, watching the neighborhood go by.
Hopefully, the photos look okay. Sometimes I find it hard to photograph this room because it is north facing and it’s challenging with the window positions.
We bought the sectional 2 years ago and still love it. We can all spread out here and enjoy movies or TV shows. It’s so comfy. Many people question why I chose white with dogs and kids but it really does make our smaller living room look large. I shared some cleaning tips last spring. I usually try to work with what we already have but I did buy a few new things – some pillows and a new lamp. I’m so excited for you guys to see.

Let’s break down the elements for making this room feel even more cozy as the temperatures start to dip.
How to Make a Room Cozy
Soft Layers Of White and Muted Velvet
Our white slipcovered sectional is piled high with textured white pillows and coordinating pillows for the couch. I LOVE white and have some tips for caring for it. Not sure if you noticed but these lovely velvet ikat pillows are brand new. I love the muted and warm tone they add to the couch.
Aren’t they gorgeous?!? My hubby was tired of rough pillows, these are so soft.
Max seems to like them, too.
The cozy white faux fur blanket also makes things extra cozy.

Add some flowers
You guys know I’ve been obsessed with dahlias this season. I love the soft sherbet shades of these blooms. You can see more dahlias here, here and here.
This simple arrangement is paired with a fragrant candle and some coral.
De-Clutter
I know this sounds so obvious, but after the summer with lots of things in every room, I find myself craving less. I removed extra items from chest of drawers and the console table.
Add Conversational Pieces
Did you notice my new lamp?!?
I found it at Native in Scituate Harbor and it is one of a kind. Marie had the shades custom made. So I have the only blue and white one but she also did a version in green, yellow, and I think orange. You all know how I feel about blue and white. I fell in love with it at her store. So much so, that I had to go back and buy it. I didn’t even know where it was going to go but knew it needed to find a home in our house.
It’s from Guatamala and is ceramic. I absolutely love the tassels, too. I was hoping to find some blue and white pillows to coordinate on the couch, but no luck just yet.
I think it’s so important to have special pieces in one’s home. I love that this is one of a kind and I’m not going to see it in every home I visit.
Another new and different addition are these mud cloth pillows, hand made in Mali:
They make such a lovely statement against the slipcovered linen chairs and thought they tied in with the black desk and new lamp.
Cozy Fireplace
There’s something so relaxing and mesmerizing about a fire. We redid the fireplace almost two years ago and simply love this addition to our room.
I love to sit in here and read. The dogs really enjoy laying by the fire, too.
We refaced the mantel in fossilized ocean floor. Isn’t that amazing?!?
Add Natural Elements
I love decorating with nature. Our early autumn mantel is filled with warm whites, brass candlesticks and some beautiful natural elements.
Some wheat from Trader Joe’s put in a ceramic vase from Luke’s office.
Vintage brass candle stick holders:
I adore the shape of these!
A sea fan in an old door knob paired with old books and white pumpkins.

Decorate with a sense of humor
For a long time I’ve wanted a concrete bust planter. I found one (on Amazon). Can you believe it?!?
I added a fern I already had and placed it on this roll top desk.
Doesn’t she have the prettiest face?
In the spring I made I add some faux moss to this, but for now I’m keeping her as is.
Well, there you have it our Cozy Fall Living Room! I hope these tips were helpful when thinking of adding comfort to your own homes.
