Cozy Playroom
My boys’ playroom – a cozy spot to daydream, build, play, and grow. Stop by and learn more about their cozy playroom.
We did their playroom over a year and a half ago. You can see the big reveal here and here. As you can imagine, they spend many hours in this room playing together and also playing by themselves. We are so grateful they have this space, especially over the last 6 months.

Since it’s been a little while since the makeover I thought I’d share how this space is looking now.
We added these warm bamboo woven shades around Christmas time and love the warmth they bring to the space.
We opted for unlined so we would still get natural light when the blinds were down. We have many windows in here – 11 in total – so went with a very affordable blind.
We’ve loved having the warm leather couch which is from Raymour & Flanigan but we moved the ottoman up to our new bedroom to give the boys more room to play on the floor.
We replaced the boys’ art with these gorgeous metal lighthouse prints by my friend Kjeld Mahoney. They used to be up in our guestroom / my office. I think they look perfect in here now.
I wish I could tell you I painted the pillow but I got it from Minted (here). Isn’t it cute?
I love sitting on the couch while the kids play. It’s so comfy.
The boys absolutely love the swivel chairs for gaming or for playing music.
In fact, this electric piano and stand were gifts for the boys back in June 2019 – the boys both wanted to learn to play the piano for good report cards. We got this specific model because it has MIDI so John can compose music, too.
John’s actually gotten quite good at the piano and he’ll plunk down and play a few keys or a few songs.
It makes my heart happy to hear him play the piano.
I snapped these the other morning. The boys were still in their PJs and we’d just eaten breakfast.
The playroom is full of board games and puzzles (John got obsessed back in March and April with puzzles). They also have a collection of legos and globes.
You’ll also see a collection of wood. Some of the pieces John found whilst on our California trip and the wooden toy was from a trip to England.
Conor spends a lot of time in here gaming with his friends.
The shag rug is a perfect spot for building legos, playing with army guys or playing chess.
My dad taught them both to play. I love seeing them play the game together. It brings back great memories of learning to play chess from my childhood with my dad.
The chess set is a Harry Potty collectable set that John saved up for with his own money.
The pieces are beautifully crafted.
They’re growing up but still love playing together and both love this cozy playroom.
I hope you enjoyed seeing this glimpse of the playroom. I’ll also include the full source list below.

Danielle, I can’t believe how grown up your boys are getting! And I love that your son saved up for that chess set. I used to love playing chess as a kid and often played “house” with the chess pieces. LOL. Love the playroom – when I first saw that pillow I did think you had painted it! It looks like one of your creations. 🙂
This is a great room for the boys and it’s wonderful for them to have a place to play and enjoy each others company. I know it is nice to sit at times a watch them, they grow so fast.
Every kid needs a play room. My brother and I had one growing up. Your kids will have many memories spending time playing in that room. When they get old they’ll sit around telling their kids about what they did in that space 🙂
