Decorating for Christmas

Today we’re decorating for Christmas!
In our home, it’s a Christmas tradition to start decorating Thanksgiving weekend. We sip eggnog and listen to the Beach Boys Christmas Album (it’s my favorite and always brings back memories of Christmas at my grandmother’s house). The trees went up on Black Friday and we stayed in our jammies most of the day.
Usually I get the decorating done all lickety-split but not this year. This year is the year of SLOW for me. I’m not taking part in any Christmas Home Tour as I did last year, click here to see last year’s tour. So I didn’t have to be in a mad panic to get it all done. In fact, I just moved the pumpkins off our front steps yesterday…
Anyway, this Christmas is a very special one for our family. It is always special with our children, who truly make me see the magic and spirit of Christmas, but this year with have a tiny wonder in Max, our rescue puppy.
We also have family coming on our English side. Luke’s brother, Ian and his family (Sarah, Katie and Daniel) are coming from Sydney for Christmas and New Year. This is the first time we’ll be hosting Luke’s side of the family for Christmas. The boys are so excited about seeing their cousins!
Runner / Candles / Blue and White Jar
With this in mind, I’m keeping our decor very simple this year. White candles (real and faux) stretched out across the dining table.
I really love real greenery each year but this year I’ve decided to use faux both inside and out. I picked up the evergreen picks at a local shop, Garden Craft, and can’t believe how real they look.
You saw them yesterday in the root vase in our room:
I realize faux isn’t for everyone but we don’t have woods in back of our home and I was spending a fortune on fresh greenery each year. Last year it all died in my window boxes because it didn’t get cold enough. They told me the faux will last a good few years.
I had planned to leave the trees naked but the boys wanted to decorate. Here you can see them in their jammies. I snapped it with my phone:
We’re decorating with these ornaments from Balsam Hill that I simply adore:
These are the the Foil French Country ornaments. They are gorgeous and heavy and they reflect the light in the most beautiful way.
We used the Ombre French Country ones in our dining room.
These have the lightest hint of blush and looks so warm amidst the glow of the fairy lights.
Well, there’s a little sneak peek of our Christmas decorating. My mom is helping me on the outside, we did the urns yesterday and I’m finishing up the window boxes today. I’ll be sharing our Christmas decor with you guys next week. Have a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you on Sunday for the link party. Don’t forget to enter our giveaway with Bambeco, click here.
Just beautiful, Danielle. Looks like you are enjoying the season :).
Danielle, I bought those same ombre ornaments just this year and I love them! I love the quote at the beginning of your post. Have fun with Luke’s side of the family!
So pretty Danielle! Your house looks so festive!
