I love sea glass colors and pretty ocean blues. Today I’m sharing my tips for decorating with pale blue.

There are pops of varying shades of blues through out our home but one color I come back to again and again is a pale aquamarine. It’s on the shutters of our home, on furniture and in decorative items I find antiquing and thrifted. It’s very hard for me to resist and pale blue vintage bottle, glass beads or fishing floats. Today I thought I’d share my tips for decoratorating with pale blue in three different vignettes. I’ll also share sources for my vintage finds.

A Pretty Dresser and Fishing Floats

This antique burl dresser was found at a local barn – Bent Nail Farm Antiques. I couldn’t resist it when I saw the detail work and the brass pulls AND that burl on the drawer fronts. The marble on top isn’t really the right size. It’s too small but you know me – I like things perfectly imperfect (like the other marble topped piece in this room).

Our TV hangs on the wall above this piece and we have the DVD player in one of the drawers along with our collection of DVDs. I’m a big believer in lots of hidden storage.

On the marble top is a collection of large fishing floats (a green blue in color) originally from Wisteria (which has since closed).

Those pale blue colors make me so happy.

Also, on the marble top is a vintage metal clamming basket which I’ve filled with more fishing floats some with rope (from Bent Nail Farm Antiques) and the others were from JM Byron House – I got them a day trip to Chatham with my guys.

What a dreamy coastal collection!

More About Fishing Floats

• Norway was the first producer of glass fishing floats, dating from 1840s.
• Japan started producing them in 1910, the floats I have are Japanese.
• Authentic hand blown glass fishing floats – have imperfections and bubbles – no two are the same.
• Prices range from $160 for a 90cm ball to a few dollars for smaller ones. I paid $10 each for the smaller glass fishing floats. Brimfield vendors have them priced in varying price points.

Ideas for Decorating with Fishing Floats

• Fill a clam bucket (as pictured in this post)
• Fill a giant clam shell
• Placed as a paperweight on a desk or bookshelf
• Nestled in a small tray on a dining table
• Suspended from a ceiling with fishing rope

A Chippy Milk Paint Dresser with Plant Holder

I found this chippy cabinet at a yard sale for $20. It had a dark varnish on it when I brought it home but I painted it with Miss Mustard Seed’s Eulalie’s Sky Milk Paint. It’s such a lovely happy color.

I keep all my entertaining supplies in here – candles, place mats, napkins, table runners etc.

The gold mirror is from my parents’ restaurant. It used to hang in the entry. The candlesticks are vintage and my son made the hand dipped candles. You can see his tutorial here.

I bought the plant and textured pot for myself for Valentine’s Day. I was at Kennedy’s picking up little gifts for my guys and just couldn’t resist this potted plant.

I knew that color would perfectly compliment the painted cabinet.

The plant is a type of succulent and thought it would add some life in here for spring 😉

The simple addition of pale blue in our dining room makes for a happy corner and perfect space to store entertaining essentials.

A Pale Blue Vignette in the Guest Room

This is the first glimpse you guys are getting of our guest room. This little nook is actually part of our shared office. If you remember it was our bedroom before we swapped rooms. You can see it as a bedroom here and here.

To create a little guest room we pulled in the day bed in here (this used to be Conor’s first bed and has been a multi purpose piece – spending some time in the playroom and my office).

The pale blue pillows are from Elburne and the white throw pillows are from Ikea. The beautiful and serene artwork that has pretty blue hues is from Minted.

The Lack table from Ikea becomes a bedside table when needed and I’ve accessorized with washed tray filled with beautiful blue beads, shells and coral. The recycled blue beads are from Elburne but I’ve found a few others online too. See below.
