Decorating with Spring Flowers

I love spring and all the flowers associated with this time of year – daffodils, tulips, hyacinth. It fills my heart with joy and I love decorating with spring flowers.

Thank you all for your kind words about our new rug and the new layout here in the dining room. I shared the post the other week and I’m delighted you like the new pale blue rug as much as I do!

Pretty Spring Flowers

Trader Joe’s is a treasure trove for spring inspiration. They had lovely bunches of daffodils for less than $3 and I thought it would be fun to pair them with some really pretty, delicate ferns. I believe these are called Deer’s Foot Ferns.

I thought the ferns would soften the daffodils. Just know they shed a little bit.

Decorating the Welsh Dresser for the Different Seasons

The change of season is a wonderful reason to add some new elements. I decided to add the daffodils and some hyacinth bulbs. The bulbs were also from Trader Joe’s and I couldn’t believe how affordable they were. I took these photos while they were still closed but by the weekend they’d opened up and our dining room smells of fragrant hyacinths. To me that is the smell of March and April!

It’s amazing how quick they grow. I find the root system fascinating. Just know they become a bit to heavy when in full bloom so you may need to lean them against something.

Classic Hydrangeas and Ferns

While I don’t really consider hydrangeas early spring flowers I love using them in our home in every season because they are so coastal.

Casual decor in a dining room for spring

I placed them in simple ribbed vases from IKEA and had those vases flanking a Hurricane Lantern also from Ikea. See the reel I created of arranging the flowers on Instagram.

These arrangements are so simple and easy to throw together. Casual elegance for every day life.

Flower Arranging Tips

  • Cut stems on the diagonal and give a fresh cut before placing in water.
  • I usually add the plant food to prolong the life of the bouquet.
  • Remove any leaves or greenery from below the water line. This will prevent bacteria in the water and prolong the life of the flowers.
  • For bigger vessels – like my jars, I put smaller vessels inside (little yogurt pots or small glasses) so I can use less flowers. You could also use a ‘flower frog’ in them to help support the stems.

Happiness in a Vase

Really flowers spread joy, as does art.

Gorgeous painting in dining room

A new painting, or framed print, can make a space feel new again.

Pops of yellow in my blue and white striped Cornishware add so much happiness too.

Hello Danielle, Yes!!! to flowers! Nothing brightens up a home, inside and out like flowers. It is amazing how one can pick up those daffodils so tightly closed from TJ and watch them actually open before your eyes each day. Of course, they looked great with the blue of the Cornishware. I love them with my willow too. Beautiful. I see at the end of the post you mention a newsletter….? I have signed up for it, quite a while ago but am I getting it? I get posts that appear to be regular blog posts. Is that the newsletter?… Read more »
