Digging for Treasure
I should have known that the boys would be drawn to the dirt piles in our yard. They’ve been digging for treasure!
Due to our pool construction, we have Mount Everest size dirt mounds in the yard. I should have known the boys would be instantly attracted to them.
Armed with beach shovels and wellie boots they decided to dig for treasure.
Who knew what may have been buried in our yard…
They’ve spent hours and hours digging, dirt getting under their finger nails and in their hair.
Squeals of laughter and clouds of dust.
It brought back wonderful memories of my own childhood, where we could spend hours searching for frogs and digging in “the pit” an empty lot near my home.

The boys did, in fact, find a treasure!
Conor found this old medicine bottle. There are some numbers on the bottom. How old do you think it is? We’re thinking maybe 1940s. I have it on the kitchen window sill and have a tiny bud in it. John found the pottery shard next to it.
I told them they better dig for more buried treasure before they level the yard and our dirt mountains are gone!
This is a cute post! I love it that they are finding things.
Maybe when all is said and done, they can write a story together of how those items could have gotten there.
So far, we have a medicine bottle and a broken piece of pottery. Sounds like a mystery forming.
I guess this is the writer in me!
Thanks for reminding me of the fun children have while digging for treasures. I grew up in central Virginia where Civil War earthworks, embankments, etc are ubiquitous. I spent hours digging for treasure (like horse bits, bullets, belt buckles,) behind my grandmother’s house.
