If there is one room in our new home that I’m excited about it is the dining room. I’m just so excited to start working on it.
It is going to be the room we enjoy wonderful Sunday roasts, being thankful and also celebrate Christmas dinner. I can picture such wonderful family dinners in there.
I wonder, can you hear the excitement in my typing?!?

Please don’t mind the train tracks on the floor! Conor and I are just keeping it real for you! You may remember this room empty on our house tour. I love the dark wood in this home. It was milled in Maine in 1927 when the home was built. I love how these columns frame the room. As you can see LOTS to do in here!
We’re planning on lightening the walls with Benjamin Moore Mascarpone. Right now the walls are Benjamin Moore Summer Harvest. I would like the moulding and woodwork to pop out more.
I love how the warm wood looks against the white and also love the chandelier in this home:
So rich and elegant. I don’t think I could get away with such a large chandelier, but love the look!
You can see the juxtaposition of the white walls and dark detailing in this room, but this is too contemporary for our home:
After the walls are painted, I hope to find a gorgeous chandelier (old world looking with crystal and brass) and refinish our dining room set.
This set has a story behind it. Doesn’t all my furniture?!? This one is on hoarder proportions though. I got this set on Freecycle a number of years ago when we lived in our old home (with no dining room). I just thought it was so pretty and was free. I stored the six chairs in the attic and the dining table in pieces under our guest beds.
The furniture is going to get the same treatment, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Old White. I thought about doing something fun and different like Provence with a wash, but there is already color in the pastel oriental a friend gave me. It was her mother’s and I love it so much!
Isn’t it sweet?!? Lovely muted pinks and blues and whites with some chocolatey browns. It was so kind of her to give me this gorgeous rug.
I love Marian’s Dining Room (below). Our dining table will be similar with dark stain on the top and white paint, but won’t be distressed.
The currently pink and yellow chairs will be painted in Old White:
I’m thinking my pops of color will be in the fabric on the chairs, in the built in china cabinet and in the curtains. While at Haven, I had a lovely conversation with Abbey from
OnlineFabricStore. I was drooling over all their lovely fabrics – they had gorgeous patterned linens, fun indoor outdoor fabrics and pretty cottons. I
loved them all. I really loved all the linens and ikats, but with sticky fingers I think I’ll have to use something child friendly.
Before I was thinking of grain sack or drop cloth. Isn’t this chair from Miss Mustard Seed pretty?
But after talking to Abbey, I’m thinking of getting some fun indoor/outdoor fabric from OnlineFabricStore, designed by Waverly or Sunbrella, and then I can just wipe it clean after our meals. I may use the same fabric on the built in china cabinet which currently has a flowered cloth in it. I was thinking I maybe could use one of their lovely linens on this fantastic chair I found at our local consignment store:

Miss Flibbertigibbet, I need your help and advice!!! She told me how to reupholster at Haven but I’ve completely forgot all the steps. Wouldn’t a lovely blue linen look gorgeous on that chair with the old nail heads?!?

I think the BM Mascarpone will look so pretty with the dark wood trim. I also love the idea of a modern floral or graphic print on the chairs with a gorgeous old chandelier! Can’t wait to watch it come together 🙂

I love the inspirational photos and all the wood work in the space. I certainly think a white is a good choice. I have a pretty antique brass chandelier with crystals….although it needs some tightening and is missing crystals. I have a post half done looking for advice on my dining room chairs and table as well, so funny! I think I would like something with some light blue in the chairs, maybe a damask?? you will do it up right! have fun with it. I love the idea of a glass chandelier. there is an antique lighting place in Wellesley on route 16.
