Early Autumn Tablescape
Eucalyptus, dahlias, and wine are the foundation of this early autumn tablescape.
I always forget how wonderful the weather is in September. Here in New England we’re enjoying an Indian summer. I know it isn’t actually autumn yet. When I took these photos yesterday it was in the 80s. I also always forget the beautiful blooms that come this month.
Well, come on and join me on the deck for some wine and a chat:
Our back deck is one of my favorite spots. It’s nothing fancy, but I love sitting out here. The wisteria and fairy lights make it feel so private. You may remember that Luke built the table and bench a few years ago.
Our dear friends, Chris and Jann, who moved to Sonoma gave us this beautiful gift. It’s wrought iron candle holders for wine bottles. They figured we could enjoy the wine bottles from our trip after we’d savored the wine. I know I haven’t shared photos yet of wine country but it was our favorite part of California. Even Conor said Wine Country was his favorite part! One of the vineyards we visited was Sterling Vineyards and it was wonderful. I used some bottles from Sterling for this tablescape.
Of course, the wind picked up right as I wanted to take photos so you’ll see the candles lit in some photos and blown out in others. It looks very romantic with the candles lit. I thought I’d share a little bit of how I created this simple tablescape.
Early Autumn Tablescape
I first placed the wine bottles with the candle holders and bee’s wax candles. Then I placed a layer of wisteria. It’s what grows on the deck and it really grows like a weed. So I first cut that back and laid it across the table. Then I took some eucalyptus from Traders Joe’s – all different varieties. They have loads in stock and it’s only $2.99. I adore Eucalyptus. It smells amazing and you can place it in water or allow it to dry.
Then I added spectacular dahlias from my favorite flower farm – Cross Street Flowers.
Pinks, reds, and whites all mix beautifully and give an energetic and natural tablescape.
The flickering candles and twinkling fairy lights add to the ambience.
I draped a cashmere throw over the chair just in case it gets chilly.
I tried to get Max to sit up on the chair but he wasn’t having it…
Oh, and summer isn’t over so I had to include some of our beach treasures – found with the kids in Scituate.
Oh, and you can see how pretty the faux verdigris compass rose looks out here!
I love flat lay florals because it makes it easier to talk over a table. To make the flowers last longer you could put them in floral water vials.
I hope you enjoyed our glass of wine together and I hope this gave you a few ideas for fun outdoor tablescapes to celebrate the end of summer and the beginning of fall.
This is beautiful Danielle! Is there a link to buy those candle holders? They are ingenious, and I’ve never seen anything like them.
Hi Tracy, I don’t have a specific link for these candle holders as our friends bought them in Sonoma. Here are some affiliate links that are similar:
