Easter Eggs
Easter Eggs |
Here are our Easter Eggs! John and Conor had so much fun decorating them.
We started off with mixing our own colors. We did pink, teal, lime green, blue purple, green. Can you tell that green is popular in our house?
To create the colors we used food coloring, vinegar and warm water. The boys enjoyed mixing the colored water and seeing the vibrant color combinations appear before their eyes.
John wanted to do all his eggs green!
Conor couldn’t wait to start dying his eggs:
We had a look at Martha Stewart’s website and looked at all her fun Easter eggs. We LOVED the marbleized ones so tried to create those. Martha’s are absolutely gorgeous! We mixed in a tablespoon of olive oil into one of our dye colors:
But I think it really should have been much darker a color because the swirls only showed up on a few eggs. Next time we’ll go darker. To create this look you first dye the eggs one color and pat them dry. Then place them in the the other color with the olive oil, the swirls of oil give it a marbleized effect. But you know how it is with kids – they just wanted to decorate them.
Here’s how the look drying:
I also wanted to show you one that Conor did at school. They wrote their names with white crayon and then when they dyed them their name magically appeared! I know our eggs may not be as pretty as Martha’s but we had so much fun doing them:

How fun! We dyed eggs lastnight and my grandkids (ages 3 and 5) were so excited! Jamison loves green and wanted to dye all his green too, while Abigail wanted hers all pink! Guess she gets that pink love from me 🙂 Happy Easter! Hugs, Leena
I always used to “tie dye” my eggs. You just crumple up a paper towel and wrap it around the egg, then spoon various dye colors on various parts of the eggs – voila, multi-color egg. 🙂
Brenda, that is such a fun idea. We’ll need to try that next year 🙂
