What Makes these Banana Muffins Special?
I have two secrets ingredients for these banana muffins:
- The first is extremely ripe bananas. I made these with black bananas that had been sitting on my counter waiting to be eaten.
- The second is Terry’s Chocolate Orange. Have you ever tried them? They are from England and a wonderful orange flavored chocolate.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- It’s quick and easy
- The muffins are perfect – moist and delicious
- If you don’t make them, you’ll have to throw the bananas away (which I always find sad)
- You don’t need any fancy tools or ingredients
- They make the perfect after school snack
Chocolate Orange Banana Muffin Ingredients
These banana muffins (or banana bread) is made with simple ingredients.

- Orange Chocolate – gives just a tiny hint of rich flavor
Variations
- Instead of Orange Chocolate add chocolate chunk or chocolate chips
- Make it as a loaf instead of muffins
- Peanut Butter + Chocolate Chips go nice with banana
- Not a fan of chocolate, add some crushed walnuts or pecans
For the Kids!
My boys LOVE this recipe and they also love baking it together. This is a great recipe (even with very little ones).
Oh, an in case your wondering, the flower photographed with my muffins is from my Korean Spice Bush. It is a wonderful plant and I love having it bloom every spring. The flowers are so fragrant. They smell heavenly when brought inside.
Special Tips:
- Don’t over-mix this recipe!
- Feel free to create variations as listed above.
- My muffin tins are on the smaller size – they’re vintage (from when I was little) so the recipe may make less than 14 for you.
- I like using a vintage ice cream scoop to spoon batter into the muffin tins – I find it less messy
- To make sure your muffins are cooked in the center test with a toothpick. If it comes out clean, then the muffins are ready!
