Eggscellent Ideas
Our family loves eggs. I think we go through two dozen a week. Here are some Eggscellent Ideas! See what I did there?
I swear it’s my boys and their love for Dad Jokes and puns, but since it’s Easter on Sunday I thought it would be fun to round up some of our favorite egg based recipes and home decor. I’m also sharing some favorite fool-proof tips when it comes to cooking eggs.

Eggscellent Ideas
These excellent ideas incorporate decorated eggs – gold foiled, hand painted, and of course, chocolate eggs. In addition we really LOVE deviled eggs, scotch eggs, and easy frittatas. Read on for more!
How to Make Perfect Hard Boiled Eggs
Okay, this may be cheating but we love this egg cooker. It holds 10 eggs and cooks them to perfection every time. Each week we get eggs delivered from Hornstra Farms with our milk and Luke always gets the egg cooker going. It’s so easy! We used to always boil them in a pot and without fail we’d have issues with the eggs cracking and bursting out the side or an issue with peeling the eggs. This little egg cooker takes all the fussiness out of cooking eggs. It would be wonderful if it could peel the eggs for your too!
Favorite Egg Recipes
Deviled Eggs
Ever since I was little I’ve LOVED deviled eggs. As a child I was such a picky eater, but these were always a favorite. I used to love snacking on them out by my family’s pool. I love making these as an appetizer at Easter or really any time of year.
A few years ago, I worked out several different stuffed egg recipes – one the traditional way (my Aunt Doris’ recipe), one with avocado, and one with truffle oil. All so good!
Paleo Scotch Eggs
These are a favorite from England, but I tried to make them a bit healthier. They’re a hard boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat. I know it may sound odd but it’s really really good.
A Creamy Leek Omelette
Another way we enjoy eggs is as omelettes. During the week Luke either makes French style omelette which are a little lighter but I love these creamy leek omelettes, especially whilst reading the Sunday paper.
Chocolate Mini Eggs in Chocolate Nests
These little egg treats are on the sweeter side. My kids loved doing this when they were little!
Eggs and Home Decor
Alright, let’s talk about home decor and eggs. Over the years we’ve had so much fun painting eggs or brushing them with gold. We’ve even made our own birds’ nests with mini eggs. All so fun during spring!
Gold Foil Eggs
For these I used some Fusion Mineral Paint, Mod Podge, and gold foil. It’s pretty easy and I did them with faux wooden eggs.
DIY Birds’ Nests
This is one of my favorite crafts EVER. I scoured our yard for twigs and seedpods and made pretty nests for our table. This is really fun to do with kids. The mini eggs look perfect in there, too. For some reason, I can’t help eating more and more of these when the package is open! I don’t know if you find the same thing!
Pansies in Egg Cups
What should you do with all your egg shells from the first section? Make little vessels for spring flowers. These are so fun and look so pretty on a table for Easter.
Decoupaged Eggs
These include sweet bees and butterflies and all you really need is mod podge. I used wooden eggs for this craft.
Watercolor Eggs
Want to try your artistic hand at watercolor eggs? These were fun to paint. These would also be fun with little kids. I used real eggs but I don’t think I would eat them (just in case). This tutorial includes a video, as well.
Free Printable Pansy Eggs
If you don’t want to watercolor on the eggs, you can get botanical watercolor look with these pansy free printables. They look very sweet decoupaged on eggs.
Speckled Eggs
This is a fun one I did with Conor when he was little. We painted eggs with Chalk Paint® and added little speckles. I can’t believe how little he was!
A Pretty Pastel Tablescape
This pretty pastel tablescapes centers around pansies and pretty foil eggs by Rachel Ashwell. They remind me of the foil eggs they used to hide at my Grandmother’s house.
Simple Easter Brunch Tablescape
This table is super simple – vibrant tulips, eggs by Shabby Chic, some ferns, and our every day plates.
